(CNSNews.com) – Amid continuing calls to reduce U.S. funding of the United Nations, two senior Obama administration officials this week gave speeches asserting the importance of full – and fully-paid up – engagement with the world body.
U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice addressed the United Nations Association of the United States (UNA-USA) on Monday, urging the advocacy group to help the administration make the case to the American people that “the U.N. plays an indispensable role in advancing our interests and defending our values.”
On Wednesday Esther Brimmer, the assistant secretary of state for international organization affairs, took the message to the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, arguing that the administration was successfully countering anti-Israel bias at international forums, particularly the U.N. and its Human Rights Council (HRC).

Because....? I suggest we set a strict standard for Presidential travel and make Obama pay the bills he runs up gallivanting around. At the least it would distract him for a moment.

This would be true only if our interests included being expropriated for Third World dictator bank accounts, paying for UN adventurists to have new rape targets and underwriting ridiculous development schemes in nations not having reliable running water and if our values included exterminating inconvenient minorities.
Amb. Rice has a truly strange set of values and I would hope that somebody asks John Bolton for his opinion of her "opinions".

AFTER we subtract the cost of our participation in past "peace keeping" efforts. Which costs are to be reimbursed but in fact have been ignored for years by the UN. I suspect that when we divvy up the costs incurred for military operations Vs dues, we will be able to sit out the rest of the decade as a fully paid member.
