San Francisco Mulls Goldfish Ban

First kittens, then puppies and hamsters and now goldfish?

San Francisco's Animal Control and Welfare Commission is recommending that the City ban the sale of goldfish, tropical fish and guppies in its borders, according to Matier and Ross.

The recommendation to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors is part of the commission's ongoing efforts to discourage "impulse buys" of animals.

The commission's ban would cover pet stores and breeders in the City. It comes after more than a year of study and findings that aquarium fish are often mass bred under inhumane conditions or stripped from the wild.

Just wait until Lady Gaga comes out wearing nothing but a coat made of Goldfish in plastic containers. Goldfish will be back in vogue.

Then some pervert politician will come out of the closet and announce that he had sex with a KOI. Fish dealers will make millions after that.

The old saying “Is that a trout in your trousers or are you just happy to see me?” also will be back in vogue.

Calling Anthony Weiner! Calling Anthony Weiner!

Guppies and goldfish are like rats. They breed all the time.

Have them call me. That’s what I do. Keep their tanks in tip top shape.

Ban guppies, too.

(ditto for rats)

“Eventually the Peoples Republic of San Francisco is going to ban something that someone there wants to have sex with. Then they’ll decide that government has gone too far.”

Well, in other words, gerbils are still A-OK there, I suppose.

I have mixed feelings on these bans because animals can give an early warning for earthquakes.

But if you say you love your gold fish, and declare your love an orientation ... Then they will give you a marrige license. And if they make you an illegal gold fish and you sneak into SF, then they will give you an identity card that is good for any library, school, and voters registration.

Fish in my care have houses! They tend to be flower pots and PCV plumbing parts but they are more than happy to take up residence in them ;)

But your 100% correct. Fish in my care (and most everyone else) get MUCH better care than they would in the wild.

I actually treat fish for Ich, Flukes, Marine velvet, infections, and other parasites.

You don’t get that kind of care in the ocean (or river, or lake)

But, if your purchase is premeditated you're free to go.

California’s plunge will be spectacular. At the end of the day though - all the freebies will come to a massive, screeching halt.

It's there bro.

Of course, you can say the same for the entire country. Just 1 trillion is 1000 billion. The Fed is now juggling 16 trillion and the numbers are spinning like a gas pump.

In over 50 years of fishing California waters, I have never caught a goldfish.

That's because they have all been stripped from the wild. It says so in the article...

Yeah but have you ever fished using a gold fish for bait?
Most attractive to your normal large mouth bass.

Nope, but I did try it once and it took about NO time.
Most of my fishing is trolling skirted ballyhoo and squid offshore,
Or fishing with shrimp or cigar minnows inshore.
Bonita strips when I can get them fresh.

Next in line? Lettuce.

They have found that the tiny seeds are actually humiliated by being buried alive in the dirt! They have water poured on them in a form of vegetarian waterboarding. In self defense, they explode and push little green things out of the ground. But then they continue to have water thrown on them and in between watering they are force to sit under the blazing sun. And just as they are reaching the prime of their lives, they are beheaded jihad-styel by disease-ridden mexicans, thrown into bags, and driven across the country in trucks as if they were illegal immigrants. After enduring unimaginable sufferings in the capitalist hell of the food marketing system, they are eaten—slashed to bits by knive, forks, and carnivorous-looking teeth, only to be swallowed and turn into fecal matter.
