Michele Bachmann, gay-curing theocrat
Michelle Goldberg's Daily Beast/Newsweek piece on Michele Bachmann's history and faith -- a strain of born-againism associated with crackpot history, opposition to science, and virulent intolerance of gays and lesbians -- shows precisely how out-there Bachmann is, even though the congresswoman these days pretends to be run-of-the-mill hard-right-winger. (Yes, her current extremism represents a moderation of her former incarnation.) The piece begins with a wonderful recounting of the time she accused lesbians of kidnapping her and holding her hostage in a bathroom, because some ladies were talking to her. Minnesotans may know much of this already, but people familiar with Bachmann only from liberal blogs or cable news are missing the evangelical extremism that informs her every public statement. She talks like Ron Paul now, but she's Pat Robertson at heart. Her spiritual influences and advisors explicitly advocate theocracy and are obviously responsible for her garbled and twisted impression of American history. A couple of newsy bits: Her 23 foster kids, a topic she mentions all the time? She doesn't ever go into detail about how many she has or had at any time, or for how long she fostered them: Bachmann often says she has "raised" 23 foster children. That may be a bit of a stretch. According to the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Bachmann's license, which she had for 7 1/2 years, allowed her to care for up to three children at a time. According to Kris Harvieux, a former senior social worker in the foster-care system in Bachmann's county, some placements were almost certainly short term. "Some of them you have for a week. Some of them you have for three years, some you have for six months," says Harvieux, who also served as a foster parent herself. "She makes it sound like she got them at birth and raised them to adulthood, but that's not true." (However many she has at a time, foster kids are a good way to make some tax-free cash from the Minnesota government, and they're not even Bachmann's sole source of free government cash.) It's likely that her husband's clinic is at least in part dedicated to "curing" gay people: Both she and her husband, by all accounts her most trusted political adviser, believe that homosexuality can be cured. Speaking to a Christian radio station about gay teenagers last year, Marcus, who treats gay people in his counseling practice, said, "Barbarians need to be educated. They need to be disciplined, and just because someone feels this or thinks this, doesn't mean that we're supposed to go down that road." This is the beyond-the-pale stuff that makes Bachmann so, so much worse than Sarah Palin, to whom she is regularly compared. Bachmann has also lied about her own family's support for her anti-gay activism. Members of her extended family have written letters to Minnesota papers criticizing her, without identifying themselves as being related to her. She is, really, a pretty awful piece of work.
The surprisingly "serious" presidential candidate is even more extreme than she appears
“She will play ball with Wall Street? How?”
Good question. I seem to recall that she was one of those that actually voted against TARP. She is also opposed to, and in the end I would bet my life will not vote for the debt ceiling increase. She is consistently fighting in the trenches of the Capitol for all the right causes.
I love Sarah Palin, and she’d be my first choice for POTUS. But if she chooses not to run, Bachmann is not a bad alternative. I think people are going to have a hard time making the case that Bachmann is somehow not conservative enough or is some fraud out there to “steal Sarah’s thunder.” Michelle is the real deal. She’s a genuine conservative, unlike Obomney, T-paw, and most of the others. If Sarah’s not in it, Bachmann would be a great choice.
The democrats and their media supporters use the tactics of a sleazy defense lawyer. The lawyer doesn’t need to prove someone else committed the crime. He just needs to create a reasonable doubt about the defendant’s guilt.
Often that is accomplished by impugning the integrity of witnesses. The same tactic used by democrats.
They both work to create doubt about a person by throwing out false accusations and comments, then they just keep pounding and pounding those thoughts.
In the case of the sleazy lawyer, he hopes that eventually the jury will start to think there must be something to the accusations because of the sheer repitition. - after all, they think, would they have heard it so much if there wasn’t some basis in truth?
In the case of the democrats it is the voters confidence they want to destry with their unfounded accusations and comment.
They ridiculed president Bush so much that people lost confidence and turned against him. They have been using the same tactic on Sarah Palin since 2008.
Now they are turning their attack machine on Bachmann.
It's not "free government cash" if you are providing a service for that cash. Foster parents are paid by the government to care for foster children.
It's a formula that's worked for Left and its flying monkeys in the media for at least 40 years. Why do you think CNN, PBS and other Lefty media are so anxious to host political debates? PBS pushed it's phony image of "impartiality" for years and got away with it. It's a sham.
This is a new meme of the libs. If they can’t declare a Pubbie candidate too stupid to breathe, they’ll label them theocrats. Naturally these theocrats if elected will try to establish some sort of religious state, and throw all non-believers into prison. Everyone will have to read the bible daily, attend church services on Sunday, and listen to Jimmy Swaggart. Certain stupid libs actually believe this.
Palin has been too savaged by the press to be viable. Thank goodness we have Bachmann who won’t be trashed that way.
Oh wait!
“Treatment” is better than the solution I’d offer...

That's Alex on the right.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words...
Talk about shrill. Would someone please position the fainting couch for Alex?
Michelle Goldberg is a Jewish writer who has written several books bashing the Christian Right.
Being as it's a perverted, immoral, unhealthy and disgusting lifestyle choice, of course it can be cured. It can be cured by choosing to stop fagging around, or by AIDS, whichever comes first. Simple enough.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
LOL
In this case way more than a thousand. Looks like Alex’s issues go way beyond Michele.
Theocrat? What nonsense. More truth in any accusation that Romney is one, and not much there. The most truth is that gay activists are trying to bend the laws to achieve maximum power for their cause and to purge all remmants of traditional sexual morality from American law.
My GAYDAR is off the charts looking atAlex! YIKES!! Is EVERYBODY on the left GAY?
