hopes of scoring a knockout blow against the Mexican cartels badly misfiredThat is because they weren't targeting the Mexican cartels. The target of the investigation were the US gun dealers, gun shows, and private gun owners.

I just watched this on Fox news. It’s good to see it getting traction. Heads need to roll.

I had the live stream on my computer at work today, but necessarly got distracted several times so I missed quite a bit. Still I managed to get most of what was said. What I missed is the very end. Is there to be any follow up? Is there anyone from ATF that will be subpoenaed?

Even Lewis from Georgia said they’d go after whomever was responsible no matter where it lead. Yeah, right.

Did anyone ask for the names of the supervisors who told the agents to stand down?
To: Blood of Tyrants
Bingo.
"..operation intended to crack down on major weapons traffickers.."
This lie reaches Clintonista proportions. This always was obviously aimed at law abiding dealers and owners for propaganda purposes.
Fox News should be ashamed. They are no different from any other major media

So, what is Congress going to do?
Call the Just-Us Dept to investigate?
Pass some new laws that no one will follow or enforce?

From further on down in the article:
"The president said he didn't authorize it, and that the attorney general didn't authorize it. They have both admitted that quote unquote a serious mistake may have been made," he said. "There are a lot of questions and a lot of investigating to do, but one thing has become clear already -- this was no mistake."
This is going to be one of those moments where Obuttocks clearly differentiates himself from Reagan - and not in a positive light.
This excuse - which is precisely what it is - sounds nothing so much like the excuses that were given concerning Reagan and the Iran-Contra scandal.
Ultimately, Reagan did the right thing (the correct thing, too), 'fessed up and apologized to the nation.
We shall see if Mr. Obuttocks has the same sense of honor and the same courage to 'fess up and apologize to the nation for this scandal. I, for one, am not holding my breath.

Wait! Wait! I have seen this story line before! A government department decided to ignore the law so as to further their own cause! It was movie of the week, no wait, it was in Congress that I saw this play out! I believe it was called Iran-Contra!
Do not get me wrong, I have NO PROBLEM with Iran-Contra arms sales! But, is this not basically the same scenario? I thought that these kinds of actions were frowned upon by the Dems!?!?!
OH! I forgot, there is a Democrat in the White House - NEVERMIND! You can go back to the latest Weiner story!
