BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -- A homeowner used a machete to defend himself against a burglary suspect, police told WFTV on Monday. The random, terrifying burglary could have cost a Brevard County homeowner his life, according to police.
WFTV witnessed the family comforting the victim after he fought off a accused burglar and two others.
A lot of homeowners on Digby Road said they have machetes to clear out brush, but on Monday it became a tool for self defense.
On Monday night, the homeowner was recovering in a hospital and police said three burglars randomly chose a home on Digby Road in Palm Bay. One of the burglars was caught when he tried to get medical care in Indian River County. Police said they are trying to get information from the one suspect they have in custody.
Michael Mack probably never imagined he would be checking out of the hospital on Monday only to be booked into jail. Palm Bay police said he was visiting his girlfriend in Palm Bay when he found a house to break into with two of his friends.
The house seemed vacant so they knocked on the door. Being that nobody answered, they kicked in the door, said a police officer.
Mack didn't know the owner was inside and had a machete within reach. Police said the homeowner was able to strike Mack, leaving him with a gash in his head and hand before Mack ran out of the house. The neighbors were astounded it happened.
This is an excerpt. I forgot to check the box.
That's gonna definitely leave a mark.

> Edged weapons are also arms protected by the Second Amendment.
And they don’t need to be reloaded.

I keep telling you... It was a one-armed man!
The house seemed vacant so they knocked on the door. Being that nobody answered, they kicked in the door, said a police officer.
These two 'graphs struck me as wierd. Kind of like it's not his fault. Mack was just visiting his girlfriend, when he happened to find the house. He knocked on the door, and nobody answered... What are you gonna do?

Delegate to advocate machete ban 12/28/06
A Howard County state delegate will push legislation aimed at slashing machete use in Howard County next year.
"On Monday night, the homeowner was recovering in a hospital and police said three burglars randomly chose a home on Digby Road in Palm Bay."
I used to live in Palm Bay. Moved there in 1991 and moved out in 2009. When i moved in the place was very sparsely inhabited with many of the blocks having only one house. After the HUGE building boom there from 2003 to 2007 there were only a few empty lots left.
I kept asking myself and my acquaintances - “Where are all the jobs for the people that these houses are for?”
It was a nice place, but now? Well, Let’s just say that i am glad I got out of there.
I keep my Blackie Collins sharp enough to shave with.
Machete ban among new ordinances adopted in Union City January 08, 2011STOO-PID™ Law. But I know the *reasoning* behind it.
NJ has been infested with MS-13 gang-banger scum.
And the favorite weapon of MS-13, the Machete.
For some 'odd reason' MS-13 likes the East Coast. I'd guess it's due to its sanctuary city & state polices. But that would be racist. ;-)
You got it. Chicago's seeing some of that now.
But just wait for Summer. Then 'Holder's People' will be going into 'Brown Neighborhoods' to create havoc. Not just the Lilly-white, 'rich', Liberal Yuppie Neighborhoods they're 'Flash Mobbing' now.
I wonder if the cops confiscated all the homeowner’s knives.
RE: the machete ban ordinance - San Antonio passed an ordinance that prohibits the carry of lockback knives under 5” long (state law bans those over 5”), supposedly so they would have something to jack up the gang bangers with. Exception to the ordinance is if you use the knife in your occupation. Problem is, here in Texas, we ALL carry knives and I’ll wager 75% of them are lockbacks.
The immoral part of it to me is that non-gang-looking folks rarely get stopped. It’s an obvious attempt to target a small segment of the population without looking like they’re doing so; an abuse of the legislative process to avoid the hard work of enforcing existing laws against assault with a deadly weapon.
And yes, I carry my 3 1/2” Boker Armed Forces with me. I have to open my mail with something.
Brevard County, Florida ping.
