Jon Huntsman: Who the media is really in the tank for
June 15, 2011

Posted on 06/15/2011 4:21:22 AM PDT by ejdrapes

Joe Scarborough said this morning on Morning Joe: "rank and file Republicans are hungry for a guy like Huntsman". Then as the show progressed they started making fun of Rick Perry.

If the media is pushing anyone is Jon Huntsman. The MSM may have declared Bachmann the winner (along with Romney) of the debate on Monday night (as did conservative media), but they're not in the tank for her. Now that Huntsman has announced watch them push the meme that he's so smart and eloquent that he's the only one who can beat Obama..

I very much doubt Palin and Perry will run against each other. They are close political allies and neither one wants to see the anti-Progressive wing of the Republican party split and vulnerable to yet another Progressive nominee (Bush, Dole, Bush, McCain — read ‘em and weep). I'm betting that either Perry will run with Palin’s support or vice versa. They may not have figured out themselves which path to follow but they soon will.

I know MB is your gal, and you don’t see or want to see the Palin stopping aspect to her sudden support—Chris Matthews, who’s mocked her mercilessly for being stupid, all of a sudden can’t say enough good things about her?—but Palin is the only threat to a Romney nomination. The only one. (I agree, a number of Dems underestimate her against Obama, though clearly Obama’s team doesn’t.)

Perry is not a dynamic, national-class pol, in my opinion, and his ringer-for-W speech and mannerisms will put too many people off. But you’re right, he is another complication for Palin, which explains his being talked up so much now as well.

Anyone that votes for any person based on what the media force feeds them is an idiot.

"If Rick Perry gets in (which is seeming more likely) what is Palin’s argument for running against him?"

Because we have already had two "George Bush" presidencies, and don't need a third.

I differ with your point of view, on just this one thing:

The media IS trying to keep Palin out.*

How do we know this? Let’s look at how the media operates.

Rick Perry is a good guy and I like him. But he has his own issues that are deeply offensive to conservatives. He is in favor of in-state tuition for illegals. While he claims Gov. Brewer is right to fight the feds as she has, he insists that an AZ-type law “won’t work in TX.” This means he is unwilling to tell big business....NO.

Suddenly the same media that just a month ago decided that Bachmann was bat-chit crazy, suddenly sounds Jeffersonian. You don’t find that a bit odd?

The same woman willing to cut federal funding to the BONE, is in favor of ethanol subsidies, the subsidies to her husband’s psychological practice (via an online diploma mill), her family gets farm subsidies for the family farm they inherited (far as I know, she hasn’t rejected them) and I haven’t even looked into the charter school she supposedly started. Was this completely privately funded? I don’t know.

While MB claims to be someone who has headed and run a business, I see no evidence of that. But I’m willing to be proven wrong and I hope you can. But so far, what I see is someone who has figured out a way to get on the gov’t gravy train, and call it capitalism.

* just watch how much media energy is spent on Kucinich and Ron Paul.

They don’t attack sure losers, do they?

I don't see Perry as another Bush. He definitely has some issues, but he has criticized Bush's spending, one of the main problems I had with Bush, and I don't see Perry being a squish on amnesty either (I could be wrong).

Perry ain't my first choice, but I'm not going to dismiss him offhand the way I do with Romney, Rudy and Newt.

I’m glad you mentioned the Hatch thing. I listened to TGO via podcast.

I’m of two minds on this, actually.

Hatch seems like a thoroughly decent human being to me, in many ways. The only time he’s pissed me off is when he’s gone “wobbly LDS” on immigration. I’m not amused when he talks about the Dream Act, etc. He’s been GREAT on Judiciary. Serious and scholarly.

Hatch has been more of a serious conservative than not; and he cannot be compared in no way to that Bennett character, whom we could never count on. Think of him as the Scott Brown of Utah. Scott Brown is fine, and the best we’ll ever get out of MA. But from Utah, a completely red state, Bennett became a non-starter.

Jason Chaffetz is a good guy. But he’s young, and it is not quite his time. Our state cannot and should not give up the seniority that Hatch gives those of us in Utah. We’re already a small state with little say in the matter.

No I don't see that. Someone called in to Rush's show yesterday basically saying the same thing. But Rush had a different take, one which I agree with. I think the MSM was expecting Bachmann to look stupid and to make a bunch of gaffs. And when that turned out not to be the case they were surprised because it doesn't fit their caricature of her. I don't think the MSM is trying to keep Palin out. But if they are they'll use Perry to do it, not Bachmann.

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_061411/content/01125106.guest.html

CALLER: Well, with the media's glowing reviews of her. I kind of feel like they're trying to set her up as the anti-Palin or in some way really build her up to try to keep Palin out. Does that make sense?

RUSH: Well, it could if you look at it from the following standpoint: The media doesn't want Palin in the race, so build Bachmann up. Palin watches this, gets steamed because they know the media hates her, here they are building Bachmann up, she's gonna realize, well, I can't compete with her, they're gonna love Michele, I have to stay out. Is that what you're thinking?

CALLER: Well, I'm wondering if that's what they're thinking they can make us think. I just think that it won't work. I mean I was taken last night by a poll that I saw that in spite of all the negativity, Palin still tracks just behind Romney, and I don't know. I just was really interested in your viewpoint on how they were treating Michele Bachmann, which was over the top I thought, which was great, she did a great job, but I just think there's something else happening.

RUSH: Well, I think at this point media treatment of any of these people is predictable in any number of connections. Here's Bachmann new on the scene, they don't think she has a prayer, they don't think she stands a chance. Prior to last night they belittled her; they made fun of her; they made fun of her because she's little. They've made fun of her because she's an extremist and so forth. What they're trying to do by elevating her now, I think is diminish everybody else in the race as well on the Republican side. But I actually think this. In addition to that I think sometimes we can be too smart by half, Ralph. And I actually believe there are some in the media who for the first time found out something about Michele Bachmann and they were shocked. They were stunned.

The media is like everybody else on the left. It's like people who have never listened to this program but attack me religiously and claim to know everything about me. My personality, what I've said, what I haven't said. They've never listened. They know it simply because it's what's been said by critics that they listen to. By the same token the media has a template narrative of Bachmann. And that is, she's pro-life, she's conservative, she's stupid, she's an idiot and so forth, and then they finally see her and it doesn't meld with anything that they knew. It just doesn't compute. They never bothered to learn anything about her because they didn't care to. All they knew was that she's a conservative female, therefore she's a traitor, therefore she's a wing nut. She's a kook.

They see her last night in a totally different light, see her in ways that contradict everything they thought they knew about her. How many people watching last night do you think knew that she and her husband have five kids and raised 23 foster kids? How many people do you think knew this? Now, those of you who know it, well, why shouldn't everybody? If I know it, why shouldn't everybody? You'd be amazed about how ignorant the media is about people on our side. They're not curious. All they know is that they oppose us and in some cases detest us and it's purely and simply because we're conservative, and that's it. They don't want to know anymore, they don't need to know anymore. As such they don't expect to like her. Plus she's got another strike against her, and that is she's very tight with the Tea Party. They hate the Tea Party.

So they think that John King and their buddies at CNN are gonna make her look like a fool. They believe they're gonna be able to embarrass her off the stage by asking her a bunch of trick questions. She's the one that got the question on gay marriage, and she hit a home run in her answer. And she's the one that got the question about gays in the military, and she's the one that got the question about abortion. They all chimed in on it, but she's the one that got all those questions. Gay marriage, gays in the military, abortion, those are these issues that the left thinks that they can destroy any conservative with, and she hit a home run with every answer. And my guess is that some of them were just genuinely surprised. If there is an effort to take her out, it will begin now, not that it began yesterday. Now that they have seen her, now that they realize that they better take her seriously, that's when they'll focus on destroying her.

All I know is that Obama gave ambassadorships to people who helped him win the presidency.

"Useful Idiot"...not the best hook for your presidential aspirations.

Look I see what Rush Limbaugh sees. Michele Bachmann had a good debate and the MSM is forced to recognize it. So it’s basically a few days of positive coverage. Now that they know she’s not the caricature they portrayed her as they will turn on her.

Yeah, I heard that as well and thought it was one of those times when I disagreed with him.

There are usually only two circumstances when I do: 1) when he thinks he’s getting inside the typical female psyche and IMO regularly comes up uninsightful, and 2) when his Establishment RINO buddies are up to something he doesn’t want to see.

I think #2 particularly applies in this case and he’s wilfully obtuse here.

Screw the MSM.

BTW:They would never declare Bachmann a winner. It is Romney they declared and crowned with the biggest spotlight. The MSM are ticked that Bachmann is brilliant and a former fed tax attorney so they can’t paint her like they did Palin and the lady that is not a witch.

I reading the comments waiting to make mine then BAM — you beat me to it. But it bears repeating:

‘First of all, Joe Scab-borough wouldn’t know a rank and file Republican if one came up and smacked him upside the head. Second, Huntsman reminds me of Charlie Crist.’

We’ll have to agree to disagree on the MSM pushing Bachmann to keep out Palin. But I still think Limbaugh is right in terms of the MSM thinking Bachmann is this stupid tea party wing nut, this total bufoon and they were surprised when she didn’t fall flat on her face, she wasn’t a gaff machine at the debate. Once Bachmann makes her formal announcement the media will turn on her.

Believe me I’m not dissing Hatch as he has helped us with a few things regarding our 501(c)3. It’s just that he reminds me a lot of McCain whom I detest. He’s old school politics now trying to assign “tea party membership creds” to himself.

That’s why I will take a “wait and see” approach. Now if he came out immediately in support of Palin, if and when she announces, then I would be able to support Hatch with vigor.

If he can’t see the true character of Romney and Huntsman and is blinded by the religion then no way would I support him.
