I have absolutely no respect for Sarah Palin, other than for her unimpeachable ability to hunt well, then butcher and dress game on the spot. Her limits are obvious. What we see and hear is what we get: an arrogant lightweight.
But however willfully insipid, vainglorious, self-pitying, manipulative and greedy she might be, we would be shocked if Palin were to join the male-dominated school for sex scandal that continues to teach us lessons we should've learned long ago.
The hardest and bluest fact is that men, no matter how prominent or intelligent, are too often willing to listen to their sex organs and risk everything for access to a woman's sexuality.
I first learned this in elementary school when a boy in the sixth grade was killed in a sex scandal. He was the most experienced among us and had been regularly having sex with a certain girl. When the girl's father heard them going at it, he burst in and shot the boy dead as he attempted to leave via a window.
The official story was that the boy had been mistaken for a burglar, but my mother and the neighborhood women knew better. They warned us to never make the same mistake. As they used to say, "Tell that to the Marines."
A woman in her 40s once told me that one of the happiest periods in her life took place during her early 20s. "I was young," she said, "with a pretty face and a nice body. Those two things gave me access to many powerful and exclusive places."
She continued, "I didn't know anything, but I was not expected to know anything. I could take over some of the energy of a room by just walking in and looking as good as I did. That kind of beauty doesn't have much of a shelf life, and the men begin to lose interest in your presence when you are no longer an ingénue. But you are hell on wheels when you are young, look innocent and seem a lot of fun in one package. I will never forget how that felt."
Thomas Mann wrote in "Doctor Faustus" that the virtual power of interest, or fascination, can actually be stronger than love. Apparently, however, the power of fantasy, and the willingness to follow fantasies even when they reveal themselves as delusional, is especially dangerous because it is a virtual cloud of unknowing. It seems to storm over the lives of men far more frequently than it does of women.
Yes, there are women who become embroiled in sex scandals and commit salacious acts. But they are much more rare in high places, perhaps because society expects more of them. At the same time, our culture has long taught us that one right all men have, from puberty to old age, is to remain adolescent almost any time an attractive woman walks by.
In two films starring Jeremy Irons - "Lolita" and "Damage," both adaptations of novels - we see the actor as, respectively, a pedophile and an apparently happy politician who loses everything because he cannot control his sexual obsession with a young woman engaged to his son.
Those films have an emotional weight greater than most of our sex scandals, which are merely trashy melodrama. The fact that the number of Republicans who have been caught playing the hard-core game of pillow talk exceeds that of Democrats does not change the dark mysteries of the human heart.
Those mysteries make themselves felt most often in the invisible inner lives of men, who can destroy themselves when they lose control of something that should stay inside but forces its way onto the dark end of the street and then into the light, bringing high holy hell behind it.
The left is a nasty, nasty small group of people.
“arrogant lightweight”
She’s more of a man than stanley will ever be.
The left is a nasty, nasty group of small people.
there...I fixed it.
And no, not every guy does it.
Female teachers seem to have a lock on luring boys and girls into their fantasys.
Proof that you can have much knowledge and write and think worse because of it.
“insipid, vainglorious, self-pitying, manipulative and greedy”
Sounds like he’s describing Obama.
What a douche.
I'd be interested to see his statistics.
I suspect the number of Rs who've been forced to resign is greater, but Ds get away with stuff that sends Rs packing right away.
Especially if they have very dark skin.
Well Sranley dosen’t listen to his sex organs, he dosen’t have any.
The Marxist’s hate for Palin is palpable. I fear it is inevitable there will be an attempt made on her life. I hope she has top notch security.
I hope those of you who believe in the power of prayer are praying for her.
I've thought about it.
I just haven't found a camera with a powerful enough 'Macro' lens!
(Or is that Micro lens?) 8)
Stanley Crouch is a drooling moron.
I’m not sure this insipid writer had a real point but I will say that women are just as susceptible to sex scandals. If they weren’t, all sex scandals would be gay sex scandals.
The fact is that there aren’t nearly as many female politicians in Washington
BTW skeeter
That nick is Wide Open territory for a thread like this! LOL
“This has to be a contender for the worst newspaper column of the year.”
Oh it’s a stinker to be sure. Read this one and see if you think it isn’t another contender.

Two really god awful left wing articles in one day. Man these people actually get paid for this. I’m thinking I could operate under a pseudonym and make some bucks pumping this trash out. But unfortunately I have a conscience.
I have absolutely no respect for affirmative action columnist Stanley Crouch.
