Jockeying is already underway for the Republican nomination in next years presidential election.
From whats apparent so far, its a pretty lacklustre field.
Of course, not all the contenders have yet declared, so theres always the possibility (hope?) someone will emerge to electrify the nation and will appeal to Americas friends who want it economically healthy, strong and confident. But, so far, barely a sizzle.
At the moment Mitt Romney seems the most logical choice, but hes not what one could call inspiring. He looks presidential, has been running (if not actually campaigning) for most of this year, but is hardly a match for Barack Obama.
Mercifully, the Donald Trump posturing fiasco is over, and Newt Gingrich is yesterdays man-who-never-was, with more baggage than a freight train.
The others are just there, with limited traction.
Its too early to make predictions, but at the moment Obama looks pretty comfortable for a second term despite the economic morass into which hes plunged America.
The most interesting Republicans on the horizon are Sarah Palin (which isnt to say shes credible, or even that she will be a candidate) and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota. Both conservative, both dynamic, neither with much chance.
Its Palin who has conventional Republicans going bananas. Everyone is reading tea leaves and looking for signs that shell contest the presidency. She, of course, is saying nothing. Yet. Shes playing the country and the media like a violin, and being a devils advocate.
Right now, Palin and her family are on a One Nation bus tour along the eastern coast, refusing to disclose their itinerary or agenda, and occasionally sneaking off (Gettysburg) to avoid the ever-buzzing media.
Before one concludes that this is a family holiday hounded by the media, consider that her bus is decked out in red, white and blue, with We the People emblazoned on the side, along with her huge photo and signature. Hardly understated.
No one on the U.S. political scene can attract attention like Palin. No one knows her intentions, and quite possibly she doesnt either. But what can be said with some assurance is that if she tries to win the Republican nomination Obama will be a shoo-in for 2012.
However, if shes prepared to be a kingmaker (OK, or queenmaker), Palin will have tremendous clout. There are Republicans who detest her, but probably more who consider her something of a messiah.
Palin can bring the Tea Party movement into the Republican fold. And if Republicans are to have a chance against Obama, theyll need the Tea Party onside and eager.
Interestingly, Romney doesnt poor-mouth Palin as other Republicans are inclined to. Nor does Rudy Giuliani who hasnt said whether he intends another run for the White House. Another yesterdays man or a Hail Mary hope?
Meanwhile, Obama basks in the afterglow of having OKd the assassination of Osama bin Laden the first Nobel Peace Prize winner to have authorized an assassination since Yasser Arafat co-won in 1994.
Sarah Palin relishes publicity especially when she can control it. It has made her a wealthy woman. And shes having fun tweaking the Republican establishment.
A full-length documentary about her is soon to be released, so shell be a presence into the foreseeable future.
At least shes more exciting than the gaggle of Republicans now testing the election water.

i don’t care if palin endorses romney, i’m not going to follow her lead even though i’m her supporter.Noone will govern like Palin. Will Romney cut 80% of presidental budget? Can he give up all the perks of being president?
Ah, another Obamaton idiot.
To paraphrase:
“She’s the most popular, energetic candidate... well, OF COURSE if she runs it’s 100% certain she’ll lose... I mean, everyone KNOWS that! She’s stupid! And, um, she said “Sheesh” in an e-mail! And... um, she didn’t abort her Down’s Syndrome child! -— Um, and have we mentioned she’s stupid and no one likes her and Obama will most certainly, absolutely, positively WIN if she runs?”
What exactly HAPPENS to these people’s brains with PDS? Do they simply stop functioning? Do they realize how utterly silly they come off?
Bullshit.
Boy, he sure makes a lot of sense doesn't he? Until you realize how much THEY FEAR HER and sure DON'T want her to run!
Don’t forget she didn’t have the good sense to abort Trig! Oh and she always tried to make her staff believe that she actually cared about the people of Alaska! What a fool! Can’t let someone like that anywhere near the White house!
Yeah, don’t you people know she can’t win? Let’s just quit now and vote for Mitt. /s
Same tedious crap. Kingmaker. ROTFL. Why should she, when she’s the one to deliver her own message?
2ndDivisionVet sent this link to me late last night with a note and, quite honestly we didn’t think it would get posted...lol.
What to these idiot pundits think the film THE UNDEFEATED is all about and what do they ponder might be its purpose?
How the heck is the Marxist a shoo-in with his economy in shambles? Hard core liberals comprise up to 25% of the entire electorate in a massive voter turn-out with fraud.
Conservatives beat that percentage by far.
Her released emails have helped her.
Bring it on and GO SARAH!
So far Sarah Palin is the only candidate that I feel could energize the processs. She has done what all promise to do. Not sure that Americans are smart enough to ever realize it. If alive today, Washington, Jefferson, and Kennedy would never win either. Not because of them, but because of us.
Palin may run, she may not. The establishment on both sides are very afraid of her. She will support Tea-Party minded candidates. And that is what they are really afraid of.
Screw the Kingmaker role I want Gov. Palin to be QUEEN.
Over my died body will I ever vote for Muttins. Never!!!!
But what can be said with some assurance is that if she tries to win the Republican nomination Obama will be a shoo-in for 2012.”
Well, then.
If there’s one thing that get my attention in politics, it is when people make absolute statements like this. Most of the time, they are wrong.
I don’t think Palin’s a shoo-in if she runs, but I certainly don’t think that Obama is a shoo-in if she runs, either....
The Libs and Dems fear Sarah Palin more than they feared Osama Bin Laden.
The Toronto SUN?
Gosh, I thought that rag had flushed itself down the john when those last election results came in......
Guess you’ve still got some of our draft dodgers left.
