We had a similar incident in Central Virginia a few months ago. A woman who just loved children had been taking in foster kids for years. For her kindness, one of them stabbed her to death.
My hubby and I are in the process of taking classes for foster care. I have to admit this makes me pause a bit.
I’d say you just want to go into it with your eyes open.
I wouldn’t foster if I had children of my own already in the home, unless my current children were perhaps older teens and the foster kids were substantially younger.
It is important work to do. I hope it works out for you.
Take a pastor or other Spirit-filled Christian who is seriously gifted and experienced in terms of discernment—particularly discernment re demonization.
Also, get a thorough history on the parents occultic involvements.
Typically foster kids have very serious degrees of ATTACHMENT DISORDER. Become an expert on that. The best book I know on it is by a couple of Christians:
ATTACHMENTS: Why You Feel And Act The Way You Do
by Drs Sibcy and Clinton
I believe God has a special blessing for folks who rescue such mangled kids.
It is NOT without significant risks and significant heartaches—but thankfully has commensurate joys.
If you have no other way to resolve a choice locally, you can send me a good several photos that clearly show the child’s eyes and I’d be willing to pray over such and offer my sense, impressions and OPINION.
You can learn a lot by looking at their eyes and facial expressions as well as body language.
I don’t know if an agency would be helpful enough to cooperate—though you could get the negative from the local newspaper . . . but take about 20 photos—one each of 20 kids in each group that clearly show the eyes of both the following groups
1. Foster kids who turned out extremely well.
2. Foster kids who ended up violent, in trouble with the law etc.
Put both sets up on the fridge in alternating rows. For 4-6 months, study both sets for commonalities and ask God to show you what’s behind their eyes, in their hearts, their spirits.
That would give you a huge boost in making good choices.
Obviously, the chance of this sort of outcome depends on the age of the children. The boy in the Susan Robertson case was 18.

Personally, I admire what you are doing.
My wife and I started taking in foster children when our only daughter was four. All but one were older than her. I was pretty careful to keep a close eye on things and try to know the foster kids’ background to anticipate whether there would be issues. Only once did I have a foster child removed after placement. I actually felt bad for him. It’s amazing how much damage some parents can do to their own children.
She was not a typical foster mother. From today's Journal article:
Miranda was a treatment foster parent, who received extra training in order to help some of the most at-risk youth in the juvenile care system. Treatment foster parents are different from regular foster parents: The kids in their care are placed there for specific behavioral health issues, not necessarily as a result of abuse and neglect in their homes.

Twelfth Judicial District Attorney Diana Martwick is charging Linares and Shields with first-degree murder, kidnapping, stealing a car, larceny, tampering with evidence and conspiracy, according to court documents.
The documents also show the girls are being charged as serious youthful offenders. According to the New Mexico Childrens Code, that means the girls will be tried in adult court and, if convicted, will face adult sanctions.
