SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A "bloodthirsty" pack of dogs has killed about 100 animals in the past few months while eluding law enforcement and volunteers in northeastern Washington state, residents and authorities said.
The killings started in late March and have occurred in a wide area of mountains and valleys west of Deer Park, a small town about 40 miles north of Spokane.
"Trying to figure out where they are going to hit is next to impossible," Stevens County Undersheriff Lavonne Webb said Thursday. "Nobody is claiming ownership of any animals involved in the pack."
Most recently, the dogs killed a 350-pound llama Tuesday night. They've also killed goats and other farm animals.
So far, no humans have been attacked. But authorities are warning residents to take whatever steps are necessary to protect their families and animals because the dogs appear to be killing for fun rather than food.
"We have this pack that is out there killing for the sake of killing," Webb said in a telephone interview from Colville. "What is going to happen if they come across a small child?"

This story reminds me of the random mob attacks lately -- at McDonalds, etc.
I expected this thread to go to at least 6 before that came out.
Dogs dumped via foreclosures?
There’s a *lot* of family pets going to our local pound because the libs over-extended their paychecks during the McMansion boom/bust.
Just looked at the photograph...I wonder if they’re domestic/wolf hybrids. (and Cincinatus’ Wife- me too!)
The llama was a transsexual in the wrong bathroom?
Just look for dogs wearing purple t-shirts with the letters "SEIU" on them.
Do I have to think of everything?
They look like the alleged “coyotes” the DNR imported here a few years back.
They were actually Canadian/eastern wolf hybrids.
-No- coyote genes were found in any of them.
They killed young livestock with a will.
Thanks DNR!

I watched an English documentary a while back that studied the behavior of domestic dogs that were allowed to run free.
The dogs were very docile during the day, but the moment night came, they gathered together in packs and terrorized the neighborhoods.

LOL. Yes. :-)
The article states that the dogs appear to be hunting at night. My Grandpa had a similar problem in the 70’s in rural Oregon. Folks were letting their dogs run and they were packing up and killing things, but not eating them. Grandpa made a hide and used a scoped rifle and took care of his problem over several nights. After he shot them in the pens, he called the sheriff to verify the dogs were in the fields/pens, then he hung the dog carcasses on the fence posts by the road. Eventually, I think, all but one of the dogs were claimed by their owners. They weren’t too happy, but Grandpa told him to talk to the sheriff if they had a problem with him killing the animals on his property.
If a lama with one “l” is a Tibetan monk,
and a llama with two “l” is a South American animal,
what is a three “l” lama?
A big fire.
It’s one of my favorites. ;o)
College students are beginning the fight to carry concealed guns.
When criminals know you can't (or won't) own a gun you are Victim Target Number One.
Great story!
Are these the roving bands of Shih-Tzu’s I’ve been hearing about?
Apparently.
Except for FReeper Vor Lady’s Grandpa (Post 13)!
Rock on with your bad self, Grandpa.
Seemed like a bad call to me. I'd have just buried them.
