Retraction Request: Politico Fabricates Palin Quote in New Hit Piece
BigJournalism.com ^ | Jun 9th 2011 at 10:12 pm | Retracto, the Correction Alpaca

Politico knew they likely wouldn’t get a quote from Sarah Palin for the latest hit piece they published so they made one up. One of the authors is the former chairman of the Democratic Party of Virgina.

Politico wrote:

Will Sarah Palin’s intensifying rivalry with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) cause the former Alaska governor to run for president?

The first female Republican vice presidential nominee clearly believes she is the one who has paid the heavy dues by bearing the brunt of the “liberal elite” attacks to help build the tea party, social conservative wing of the GOP.

Palin’s bus tour had some of the hallmarks of a primal scream: “I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else,” she said. Looking at it through her eyes, she has a point.

Palin’s camp responded:

An absurd opinion piece in Politico includes a quote attributed to Governor Palin that is a total fabrication and yet is deliberately written to appear as if it is a legitimate direct quote. By any standard this is unacceptable even for an opinion piece. This puts us in mind of a real quote of something Governor Palin actually did once say to the media: “Quit making stuff up.”

Part of the article in question:

Will rivalry make Sarah Palin run?

The first female Republican vice presidential nominee clearly believes she is the one who has paid the heavy dues by bearing the brunt of the “liberal elite” attacks to help build the tea party, social conservative wing of the GOP.

Palin’s bus tour had some of the hallmarks of a primal scream: “I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else,” she said. Looking at it through her eyes, she has a point.

They are so desperate and scared of Palin that they have to try to destroy both her and Bachmann.

Poofter brains.

These are the distinguished scholors that wrote this:

Paul Goldman is former chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia. Mark J. Rozell is a professor of public policy at George Mason University.

I’ll say it again. She needs to sue and do it publicly as possible, rubbing their noses in it every step of the way. As the Enquirer if ‘public figures’ always lose. They only respond to 2 things and the other is illegal.

The more the gen public see this, the more they will turn on their love of the media.

Thanks for the link!

The second comment at the article you posted:

Hiring Ed Rollins is a stroke of genius by Michele Bachmann.

Ed Rollins has always been a very fierce critic and indomitable opponent of those bunch of racist tea-baggers. By making Rollins as his #1 campaign manager, Bachmann has brilliantly, skilfully and strategically dissociated herself from those bunch of racist tea-baggers.

Through the hard work of Rollins, Bachmann has made herself more electable and more acceptable among the well-respected leaders of the Republican Party than Sarah Palin, that Teabagger- in-Chief.

Oh yea, they have it all figured out oh my LOLOL!

The fourth comment is great!

Cripes! This essay written by Rozell and Goldman is quite the heap of smelly wet mule manure!

Rozell and Goldman quote Sarah Palin, “I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else”

I am unable to find a single source which cites Palin saying this. I used Google, searched the web, searched news, looked all over, not one source cites Sarah Palin as saying this.

Rozell and Goldman write about Sarah Palin, "And that must make all the latest attention on Bachmann doubly infuriating to Palin."

This is literally impossible for you to know.

Rozell and Goldman continue, "But Palin clearly understands that her brand would be threatened...."

This also is literally impossible for you to know.

Rozell and Goldman add, "Team Palin is likely in panic mode."

Impossible for you to know. Three strikes, you are out.

This is clear Rozell and Goldman are engaging in deceitful fabrication which is stereotypical of our left liberal mainstream news media. I am dismissing their essay as a stinky pile of wet mule manure plopped down on what little journalistic integrity Politico still retains.

The only reason so much would be directed at one woman would be if her politics were unusually genuine and her character hard to corrupt.

It’s more and more crystal clear every day that the best president is the one the media hates most.

Keep praying that they jump the shark and overdo it. We all know for certain that the attacks will not stop so lets just hope it keeps on intensifying. At some undefined magic point all this negative publicity will turn into a tidal wave of support as even politically sleepy Americans figure out she’s being unfairly targeted.

It didn't fool me at all, but it fooled a lot of willing fools and that was their intent.

Goes to show the gullibility of the ignorant masses.

Give 'em a false reason to hate and *hate* they will.

Right in line with Ann's new book!

Palin’s bus tour had some of the hallmarks of a primal scream: “I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else,”

she said. (in their imagination)

Looking at it through her eyes, she has a point.

Ann is on Red Eye! I intended to go to sleep early because I wanted to call Rush in the morning. I might still try, provided I am clear headed....LOL.

Liberals will believe what they want to believe, even if it is complete nonsense. And yet they think they are more sophisticated than Sarah Palin!

“I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else,” she said

Well number one it don't sound at all like something Palin would say.

You would think they would have at least used the usual BS line "an unnamed source familiar with the Palin tour".

We have got to come up with an effective strategy to combat the media. They make this stuff up, the late night comedians run with it, and before you know it the general public accepts it as fact.

Setting the Record Straight: About False Quotes Attributed to Governor Palin

I agree. Bluff or not, even if the chance of “winning” is zero, sue the bastards. At least it would let the public know that Politico has once again published a lying hit piece. The final outcome of such a lawsuit is irrelevant. Make them spend the money on a legal defense.

The merits of suing aside, there is another action she can take.

This Rozell turkey is a university professor. Fabricating a quote is academic dishonesty, and even for libs, that’s a major no-no - Ward Churchill and Michael Bellesiles lost their jobs that way. Somebody (and it doesn’t have to be Palin) should file a complaint with George Mason University.

I used to pay some attention to Politico's articles (know your enemies type of stuff) but now I usually skip things that they say because they so mechanically apparatchik to the far left.

GAME ON!

It drives me batcrap crazy that in the literal ...thousands... of times the Msmlibs invent things and strap them to one of our people, we just ‘turn the other cheek’ and so the GenPub think it’s the truth “Uhhh...cuz if it wasn’t, they’d sue!’

We have to accept the fact that anyone refusing to fight back does so for a reason. Whatever that reason is, they are part of the problem and the result is America loses. Why can’t someone hire me as campaign pit bull? I don’t charge much and would do a hell of a job ;)

Palin is the only one fighting them at all and the only one who has since Reagan. I pray she sues. She will continue ramping up - that I don’t doubt, but a/many lawsuits are really whats needed. There are plenty who would gladly donate to that legal fund.

Imagine if even 10 hi level Repubs did the same.
