California's largest union is trying to help elect...Republicans? And the GOP is ticked

With 700,000 members, the SEIU is California's largest labor union and on Thursday it announced they would be doing something a bit un-SEIUish: The were starting a political action committee to help moderate Republicans reach office.

Yup. SEIU California has 87,000 Republican members (216,000 Dems and 80,000 decline-to-state and others) and at Thursday's rollout of the PAC, a few of the Republican ones said they felt the party of Reagan had deserted them. Now, it is held captive by social conservatives and anti-tax types who had no interest in the art of compromising. And that -- along with extremists from the left -- were the source of the state's political gridlock.

Where is the love for good ol' middle-of-the-road Republicans, several asked. The hope was that -- with the SEIU's help-- that more moderate Republicans would be elected to serve in Sacramento.

With California's new primary system kicking in -- where the top two finishers, regardless of party affiliation move onto the championship round -- the union figures it might have a shot at rooting out conservative Republicans.

"I hope that maybe the the California Republican Party can move closer to the middle," said John Orr, a SEIU member who is a parking officer at Cal State University Fullerton, Anaheim resident and a lifelong Republican.

The SEIU didn't offer a lot of specifics Thursday. No, the SEIU wouldn't say how much cash they would sink into Republican-a-thon. Wouldn't say what parts of California they would be playing in, or when this effort would start. (Depends on how the redrawn California Legislature districts look.) Yes, the PAC would be controlled by the SEIU...but it wasn't specific on who exactly.

Yep, they are not trying to elect Republicans they are trying to elect RINOs, trying to fool people into voting for dems in republican clothing.

SEIU California has 87,000 Republican members

Let me guess, the attitude is "it's a GREAT accomplishment considering how liberal California is, it's the best conservative can ask for"?

There are few RINO’s surviving in the population of elected California Republicans. The Republicans in the state assembly and senate have hung together and foiled all of Jerry Brown’s attempts to raise taxes. The districts are gerrymandered so that your elected official will be either a marxist or a Reaganite. However, within a few years the demographic changes caused by massive illegal immigration will give the Democrats new districts and the super majority they need to raise taxes to whatever level they want.

In other words, the SEIU wants two Democrats running.
Obama vs. Romney -- SEIU fantasy election team.

Huh... I thought the scumbags were doing this all along anyway?
Whatever.. Any district that would elect a fake Republican would elect a rat anyway.

In my line of work, to be fully covered... (with no real choice involved) I have to be a member of 3 effing Unions.

This is a SEIU setup ... to get Rino’s to replace real Republicans (all 3 of them) as to “cover their bets”.

The Purple People Beaters are still nothing more than Obama’s SS!

I wonder if this is related to the new open primaries passed by the idiot voters last election. No longer will GOP voters vote in a GOP primary. From now on, the primary will be open to all voters voting on all comers and the top 2 vote getters get elected.

I think their goal is clear. They want to insure that the open primary’s 2 top winners are always a liberal Democrat, and a fall back RINO in case the liberal loses.

Imagine an election where every choice is Obama vs. McCain or Hllary vs. Romney. This is where California is going with the new open primary. Conservatives would do better to let Mexico have California back and build a wall along the Nevada and Oregon borders.

SEIU is gaming the open primaries. Simple as that. Heads they win (Liberal), tails they don’t lose (RINO).

I understand..my GF is an RN, and she tried almost everything not to join their GD MF union. The worse ones is when there is a stupid strike and she would rather work or go home. These assclowns implied “threats” to her and I had to show up to “talk” to her union manager.

When I said “talk”, let’s just say we were not exchanging Shakespeare and that’s when they backed off.

Thanks to a law signed by Grey Davis, in CA workers must pay the dues anyway so you might as well become a member. The dues are confiscated directly from the paycheck, employees never see it.

As I posted in another thread:

A direct result of the insane California Proposition 14 passed last June. Why even have a “primary” anymore...just save the 100’s of millions of $$ spent on them by the counties!  The top 2 (of any party) advance anyway...just have a General election and the top vote getter wins.
