(Reuters) - Syria's ambassador to France resigned on Tuesday in protest at a crackdown by President Bashar al-Assad's forces that has killed scores of civilians, the first Syrian diplomat to quit over the crisis.
"I recognize the legitimacy of the demands people are making for more democracy and freedom. My resignation as ambassador of Syria in France takes effect immediately," Ambassador Lamia Chakkour said, announcing her decision on France 24 television.
"I can no longer support this cycle of violence," she said, reading a statement to the TV channel.

I’m guessing she’s going to be remaining in France for the forseeable future.
So when does Mr. Obama point what’s left of the Sixth Fleet towards Syria?
BTW, is there still a Sixth Fleet?
Doesn’t she now lose diplomatic immunity now and the benefits of government...
Best she stays where she is. If she goes back to Syria, the Assad brothers will have her doing the “chicken” before sundown...
The protest on Israel’s Golan Heights border with Syria doesn’t seem to have achieved it’s intended goal.
The Syrians are not being baited into falling in line behind the government, as it ratchets up the tension between it and Israel.
I guess the populace is pretty focused, if they’re going to take a pass on being sidetracked to demonize Israel and ignore their government.
Good.
I still say the Muslim Brotherhood ultimately benefits again. It’s quite a movement, what is taking place across the Middle-East.
Sooner rather than later, this is going to turn very bad IMO.
Thought Muslims never gave women important positions.
Let’s see - would I rather live in Paris France or in some Syrian s***hole - that’d be a tough one.
“The Syrians are not being baited into falling in line behind the government, as it ratchets up the tension between it and Israel.”
Yes, and it’s not distracting people from all the civilians that Assad is killing either.
well, you’re wrong
Yep. Can’t believe what you read in the media.
So is she Pro-Syrian or not? If she is protesting the Syria govt., then where does she think she will live as they would most likely hunt her down if she returns there. Doubt France would want her as a Syrian citizen.
a.k.a. ‘how do I get a French passport and enough money to live comfortably for the rest of my life’.
"I can no longer support this cycle of violence," she said
Thanks nuconvert. She can no longer ignore blah blah blah.
What this means is, she knows she’s going to need a new job soon, and doesn’t want one with any actual work. Plus, she wants to avoid trial and execution by whatever jihadist puppet state replaces the Assad dynasty.
Update: Denial of resignation (by whom?)
