A ballot measure to ban circumcision in San Francisco has taken a strange twist with the publication, by the measure’s sponsors, of a comic book in which an anti-circumcision superhero -– blond, buff and handsome -– battles evil Jewish characters who recall the stereotypical images of classic anti-Semitism. "Foreskin Man" was written and created by Matthew Hess, one of the leaders behind the initiative to ban circumcision, the ritual cutting of foreskin on a baby's penis that, in the Jewish religion, is considered central to the covenant between the Jewish people and God. Opponents consider it painful and barbaric, akin to female circumcision rites in Africa that have attracted international condemnation. The measure will be on the ballot in San Francisco in November. Hess is with a San Diego group, MGM Bill, which is also seeking signatures to put a similar measure on the ballot in Santa Monica. In the book, the blond superhero takes on "Monster Mohel" -– a bearded, black-hatted man with bloody scissors. In the traditional Jewish community, a mohel is a person trained to perform circumcisions. The publication of the comic book was first reported Thursday in the San Francisco Chronicle, which asked Hess if he considered it to be anti-Semitic. "A lot of people have said that, but we're not trying to be anti-Semitic," he said. "We're trying to be pro-human rights." The Anti-Defamation League, which was organized to fight anti-Semitism, issued a statement Friday sharply attacking the publication, which it called "an advocacy campaign taken to a new low." "This is a sensitive, serious issue where good people can disagree," the ADL statement said. "It is one thing to debate it, is another thing to degrade it. 'Foreskin Man,' with its grotesque anti-Semitic imagery and themes, reaches a new low and is disrespectful"

somehow I believe my father talking about this same thing happening in Nazi Germany many decades ago, so they could spot the Jewish people from the rest of the population.
Look at what we’ve become.

Near universal circumcision in the West is a recent thing.
In WWII they would say things like ‘those shorts were so tight you could tell a man’s religion’.
As such it was a difference already in place.

Yet I remember during the height of the OJ trial madness, Time magazine was criticized by the usual suspects crying racism for putting a picture of OJ on the fromt cover that looked “too dark”. Nahhh, no double standards here, just a pigment of my imagination.
Secular Jews in San Francisco will vote for this ban, so they don’t offend anyone with their religious practice. Watch it happen!

How will the 'diversity is strength' idiots work that one out?
Male circumcision in the US has had a very odd history. In WWII the Germans were astonished to find their foolproof method for separating out Jews among POWs didn’t work for Americans.
Newborn circumsision was about 30% in the 30s, hitting a high of 80% to 90% in the 60s/70s, then dropping off till today we’re around 50%. Presumably will continue to decline.
There are some very odd men out there who really obsess about this issue.

While I disagree with their Nazi-themed methods of debate, circumcision can be cruel. Most male babies cannot walk for nearly a year after the procedure is performed. [/zing!]

My guess Mohels perform well under 1% of the circumcisions, not much more in the Bay area. Wonder it they'll be doing a similar cartoon publication of medical professionals, or isn't that the point..
The circumcision ban is antisemtic. The cartoon was simply proof for even those who miss the importance of circumcision to Judaism. Organized Jewry should have been shouting about this since February, but the ADL is too in bed with the gays.
Why does this Hess guy care, anyway? What’s his deal?
