Bachmann Taps Rollins to Run Campaign
CBS News ^ | June 6, 2011 | Jan Crawford

Posted on 06/06/2011 12:20:58 PM PDT by Al B.

As she prepares to enter the race in Iowa later this month, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has signed on high-profile political strategist Ed Rollins to run her presidential campaign, according to two sources close to Bachmann.

Rollins, who was Mike Huckabee's national campaign director in the 2008 campaign, is an experienced political operative with a well-earned reputation for his tough tactics and willingness to play hardball.

Bachmann thinking she can beat Obama

I guess she knows there are medications one can take to mitigate that type delusional thinking...

How is that you are so enlightened and the rest of us are so stupid?

Because we pay attention and have friends within the grassroots networks in SC and Iowa who have reported firsthand accounts of EVERYTHING that Bachmann's staff has been spouting in those states.

If you can't see the skullduggery at play here, then you are blind.

I’m not ruling what you say out, because the intrigue gets real thick in GOP presidential politics, but I think Bachmann hiring Rollins is her taking her one and only shot. She NEEDS to win Iowa and she needs to capture a high percentage of the Huck crowd to do that. Rollins isn’t the ideal but it’s the only card she has to play.

I know a lot of politicans that have a wealth of ‘experience’ that I would never vote for. I don't need a long list of legislation in order for me to support someone. I know what Bachmann's beliefs are, what she stands for and how she's voted. And the majority of the time it's been solid conservative.

Well, that's the end of Michelle's campaign.

Choosing Ed Rollins as campaign manage is akin to hiring Donald Trump to represent Moto-Cross racing.

And I’ll bet Palin has staff on the ground who are also spouting off about Bachmann and other candidates. And the same for every other candidate.

I have to agree. Bachmann knows she has to win Iowa to even have a shot of going further in the primaries. She hired the veteran Rollins to help her win Iowa. According to Eric Erickson of RedState he’s hearing from people on the ground in Iowa that Bachmann could make huge waves there. She’s putting all her chips down on Iowa.

Unfortunately no, she’s not my district. My rep is John Kline (also a solid conservative). Though with redistricting it looks like he’ll no longer be representing my county and my new rep will be Erick Paulsen (a more moderate R). Not so happy about that.

“Ed Rollins = The Kiss of Death.”

ROFLMAO! I was thinking the same thing. His last winning candidate was in the last century, right?

“How about you supply some evidence, some quotes, video, etc. of Michele Bachmann being in the tank for either Romney or Pawlenty.”

********************************

The circumstantial evidence is overwhelming. As a Bachmann acolyte you are simply blind to it. This Rollins move is just the latest example.

Of course, the real giveaway is that Bachmann can’t win. How do we know this? Only one member of Congress has gone straight from Congress to the White House, James A. Garfield...130 years ago. Garfield was 9 term member of the House and served as Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. He was a decorated General, commanding several units of brigade strength and larger in the Civil War who served with distinction at Shiloh and Chickamauga.

Michele Bachmann’s record in Congress is nowhere near what James Garfield’s was, as even you must acknowledge. I invite you to tell me how I am wrong about this.

No one, and I mean no one with a career as undistinguished as Michele Bachmann has ever been taken seriously as a Presidential candidate. She has exactly the same experience as Shirley Chisholm did when she ran in 1972 and is about as serious a candidate. She will do less well than Shirley. Shirley was pitted against George McGovern. Bachmann has a rather more difficult assignment.

Bachmann has made a joke of herself.

Now she’ll be forfeiting her congressional seat that we gave her the contributions to win in the last election.

She let the MSM snooker her into running for an office that she has no chance nor qualifications for.

OK, this is my point. I know Representative Bachmann has some strong conservative opinions. We can agree. That is what initially sparked some interest. But as I have looked into her legislative record I can see very little she has done to build coalitions to advance those positions. Her performance in the US house has been a lot of talk but not making much happen. For example, today there was an article where she "called on the Congress to address corruption in Planned Parenthood". That is all well and good, but where is a copy of a letter that should have gone to Representative Issa expressing her concerns? In a puff piece like the one I saw, if there had been one I feel certain it would have been referenced.

From what I can tell Mrs. Bachmann was more effective in the state legislature. Her performance there speaks well of her. The US House is another matter and I for one would like to have seen perhaps less talk and a little more action.

JMO, and read the tagline.

From the looks of that photo, Rollins has one foot in the grave and the other one slippin’.

If anyone thinks this old fossil is gonna whip Sarah Palin, I have some real estate to sell them... in the Marianas Trench.

If Palin people were mouthing off anything about Bachmann (Hello? GOP women catfight?) the MSM would have love nothing else than to definitely report it as soon as possible! It's Palin that we are talking about! The Ed Rollins hire is strange one, he has attacked the TEA Party and Sarah Palin and is a part of the Establishment GOP, this totally contradicts peoples thinking of Bachmann possibly running a anti-Establishment, think-outside-the-box campaign. People may say that Michelle will do her own thing regardless of Rollins impute, but Ed is a strategist and his ideas will come from attacking other candidates (his past history) and holding Establishment thinking (recent statements)

“I think Palin has a 50 state strategy and the ability to win that.”

I think you are exactly right. That was the point of the vanity I did Saturday.

The plan was and is to goad her into a Presidential run through her staff so that she can bleed support away from Palin and clear the way for a GOP-E-approved candidate like Romney or Pawlenty. ... In the leadership's eyes, it will be like killing two troublesome birds with one stone, gratifyingly hurled by one of the birds itself in a fit of political suicide.

Correct. The one caveat I would offer is that I don't believe Bachmann herself is acting in bad faith, and she does not merit the personal slanders some here are leveling. I believe she's simply been flattered and seduced into this by those players you named. It's primarily a case of bad judgment on her part, not bad faith.

I think you’re wrong. Atwater and Rollins were both part of the 84 campaign (Rollins head, Atwater deputy) but the 80 campaign chair was Bill Casey, I think. Atwater did work for Reagan during the 80 campaign, though.

But yeah, I am with you that Reagan’s 84 campaign could have been run by anyone with a pulse.
