Sarah Palin yesterday insisted her claim at the Old North Church last week that Paul Revere warned the British during his famed 1775 ride remarks that Democrats and the media roundly ridiculed is actually historically accurate. And local historians are backing her up.
Palin prompted howls of partisan derision when she said on Bostons Freedom Trail that Revere warned the British that they werent going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and making sure as hes riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free.
Palin insisted yesterday on Fox News Sunday she was right: Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there. That, hey, youre not going to succeed. Youre not going to take American arms.
In fact, Reveres own account of the ride in a 1798 letter seems to back up Palins claim. Revere describes how after his capture by British officers, he warned them there would be five hundred Americans there in a short time for I had alarmed the Country all the way up.
Boston University history professor Brendan McConville said, Basically when Paul Revere was stopped by the British, he did say to them, Look, there is a mobilization going on that youll be confronting, and the British are aware as theyre marching down the countryside, they hear church bells ringing she was right about that and warning shots being fired. Thats accurate.
Patrick Leehey of the Paul Revere House said Revere was probably bluffing his British captors, but reluctantly conceded that it could be construed as Revere warning the British.
I suppose you could say that, Leehey said. But I dont know if thats really what Mrs. Palin was referring to.
McConville said he also is not convinced that Palins remarks reflect scholarship.
I would call her lucky in her comments, McConville said.
Meanwhile, the states Democratic Party held a thin blue line on the issue, insisting on mocking Palin despite a brief historical review of the matter. State party chairman John Walsh wise-cracked that the region welcomes all tourists, even those with an alternative view of history.
If you believe he was riding through the countryside sending text messages and Tweets to the British, still come to Boston, he said. There are a lot of things to do and see.
But Cornell law professor William Jacobson, who asserted last week that Palin was correct, linking to Revere quotes on his conservative blog Legalinsurrection.com, said Palins critics are the ones in need of a history lesson. It seems to be a historical fact that this happened, he said. A lot of the criticism is unfair and made by people who are themselves ignorant of history.
Ahhh, I see, if she gets it right, she’s lucky.
Palin’s critics are the same morons who corrected her comment about the Boston Tea Party by using their expertise to let her know that it took place in 1776. ROTFL!!!
Sarah must be the “luckiest” person in America. Her string of “luck” extends itself each day, it seems.
Yes, if she gets it right she is just lucky but if Obama gets it wrong he is just tired or misspoke, and it is so human and understandable and makes him that much more real etc. etc. etc. Amazing.
And her detractors are luckless yet again.
Son.if you study history long enough...........You make your own “luck”..I'm guessing your young or senile to reflect your view....U tell me which...
Since most of the last 3 generations has never learned our history, it makes sense they don’t know it. They are well versed on homosexuality, global warming and how to be a socialist.
Not only that, he warned the British in all 57 states!
I love it. Getting these left wing Bostonians to admit that she’s right is like pulling teeth.
You just know they hate it.
The lamestream media is horribly unaware of actual American history. When Sarah Palin teaches them about the real events, they're so taken aback by the unvarnished truth, they call her "lucky" as a means of cover for their ignorance.
In 2012, when (not if, but WHEN) she wins, the lamestreamers will doubtlessly attribute her victory to "luck".
And Palin is well versed in our 2nd Amendment rights, and the stance against big government - hence her phrasing her comments the way she did - bringing that history into the modern day fight.
Letter written by Paul Revere himself:
I observed a Wood at a Small distance, & made for that. When I got there, out Started Six officers, on Horse back, and orderd me to dismount;-one of them, who appeared to have the command, examined me, where I came from,& what my Name Was? I told him. it was Revere, he asked if it was Paul? I told him yes He asked me if I was an express? I answered in the afirmative. He demanded what time I left Boston? I told him; and aded, that their troops had catched aground in passing the River, and that There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up. He imediately rode towards those who stoppd us, when all five of them came down upon a full gallop; one of them, whom I afterwards found to be Major Mitchel, of the 5th Regiment, Clapped his pistol to my head, called me by name, & told me he was going to ask me some questions, & if I did not give him true answers, he would blow my brains out. He then asked me similar questions to those above. He then orderd me to mount my Horse, after searching me for arms.
I can’t remember the poster but he wrote this on another thread earlier today...
“The British troops (Democrats) are marching toward Lexington (2012 election) They hear warning shots (Obamacare town hall meetings) and then volley fire (2010 midterm elections), alarm bells ringing (Tea party rallies ). And then they are warned by Paul Revere (Sarah Palin) that the population (us) has been aroused and is prepared to oppose and defeat you.”
God has his ways of telling people to put a sock in it!
...never ceases to amaze me the defense He brings to Sarah. Funny thing about “truth” when it’s spoken...it has someone leading ...and covering the rear for those who speak it.
Kinda of reminds me of the nation Israel as they left Egypt...God’s cloud before them and behind....and it was a fire nobody should desire to mess with as the nations soon discovered.
If it’s His desire she run...no man can stop this...they will only get in the way and be mowed down in the process. And since He does install leadership....well... time will surely tell if He’s going to give this nation another chance to do it right.
Thank you for pointing that out.
What the lefty savants seem to have overlooked was that a central point of her comments called attention to the fact that the Brits were marching to Concord to disarm the Colonists. Hence her “we’re gonna be free, and we’re gonna be armed.”
They got their panties all in a twist because they thought that they had a “gotcha” moment, and utterly missed the point she was making. The thing is, the rest of us didn’t miss her point: we heard her loud and clear, and all the left has managed to do is bring her warnings about the RKBA to wider prominence.
Score another one for Palin.

I’ll take her luck over Obama’s animus of all 57 states any day.
