Thats where the Med School and Law School are, not the main campus which is in Evanston. One of the biggest, newest private medical centers in the US. Right off of Michigan Ave.

Actually there are a lot of black motorcycle clubs. Just around Holly Springs, MS, when I was growing up, there were at least a dozen groups, all on big bikes.

Now off road, I rarely saw any.

Gangs of young black thugs perpetrating robbery and racial assault in downtown Chicago is not new. What is new is that the Chicago media is beginning to report a phenomenon they had previously sought to cover up. The fact is that most ordinary Chicagoans were beginning to learn about it through eyewitness testimony and internet blogs. The local media are now playing catchup in an attempt to salvage a shred of credibility. Over the Memorial Day weekend, the police closed a downtown beach because of racially motivated assaults. Mayor Emmanuel began his new term by lying to the public and claiming the beach was closed because it was too hot. Clearly he thinks the law-abiding citizens of Chicago are stupid.

Chicago is a big convention city that attract visitors from all over the world. These conventions generate big dollars for the city. This type of attack Will scare off these visitor. My wife and I were almost attacked by two Amish while walking down Michigan ave near the bridge and Wrigley building. The area near the Science and Industry Museum is also very dangerous. The L and the metro train is hit and miss depending on location and time of day. I will never go back to Chicago. It isn’t any fun having to dodge all the predatory people and spending a ton of money to stay downtown.

Oddly, the first prosecution under Wisconsin’s “Hate Crime” law was for a black against white assault, if I remember correctly.

Yes, I’ll venture to guess that the next round of inner city riots will be a lot better planned, a lot more mobile, and a lot harder to deal with. Especially since they will probably be listening in on the police frequencies. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You betcha, many trained and encouraged by Acorn style community organizers and cadres of SEIU thugs. Why do yiu think that Obama had to put Maxine Waters and Charles Rangel through their ethics investigations? They got nothing because they folded in their resistance to the Obama Community Organizing machine radicallizing the precincts of Watts and Tammany Hall. He wanted his people in their precincts doingthe community organizing and Maxine Waters and Charlie Rangel stood in the way.

That area has always had sporadic problems due to the ability to hide and ambush around the bridge. The S&I Museum was always dicey due to the neighborhood, especially at nite.

I left there in ‘96, visited in ‘07. Man did it change. I used to drive delivery for awhile and knew every inch from the South Loop up to Edgewater, and even I was intimidated when I went back. Can’t imagine now with the recession, that always makes the hoodlums more aggressive.

I don’t have a solution and neither do you

You're might be correct there. Perhaps there is no solution.

The unions will hinder any attempt to bring manufacturing back by making unrealistic wage demands. And the government will tax and regulate, then tax and regulate some more.

But my point is that some political leader should at least try! Try to rally the country, try to get everyone on the same page.

Bring back tariffs. Try to limit the power of unions and try to scale back the power of the federal government. To do nothing is to just kick the can down the road.

I really do see the USA twenty years from now being like the Soviet Union was in the 1990's. Powerful militarily, but a total wreck otherwise.

Oh, and by the way, I did enjoy this rather spirited discussion with you.

Wishing the jobs back clearly shows that you have no clue about the international market and the way the world works. So before you call me “silly and unrealistic” maybe you should sober up and get an education.

So why aren't the jobs coming back?

Instead of denigrating people because they question your opinion, how about providing definitive proof and/or logic to back it up?

How do you know unless we try?

We don't need your kind of pessimism and/or defeatism.

problem with letting them burn their cities to the ground is that THEY will escape, leaving the innocent little kids and grandparents to starve...

If you read the comments after the story (I am amazed that they have not been censored!), you definitely get the idea that the victim was white, and that this sort of thing has been on the increase in Chicago. Certainly not good for the tourism board!

A little bulky, but useful in this type of stressful urban social confrontation... The Saiga 12ga semi-auto shotgun in the "AK configuration" and a couple 20 round drums. Try them on your favorite zombie killing video game. Available now locally or from the friendly people over at Classic Arms.

Finish what Abraham Lincoln started and wanted.

Free the slaves - check.

Return them to Africa - still waiting.

"But we also need to bring basic manufacturing back to the USA."

I just don't think they would work "those" kinds of jobs....they were good enough for our fathers and our uncles and our cousins and spouses but not good enough for an entitled class....

Thanks for your support about trying to bring basic manufacturing jobs back to the USA.

I hope you had a chance to glance over my post #69 on this thread.

It really bothers me that except for Trump on the right and Kucinich on the left, no politician has said much about trying to get those important jobs back.

No politician except those two seem to care. That is both puzzling and disheartening.

Lesson learned: In the mid ‘70s, I returned home from a Sydney to San Fran DC-8 trip, followed by an all-nighter deadhead to Miami. Unbeknownst to me, the boys in Amish town had spent the previous two nights rioting. Half asleep, I jumped into the VW bus and headed for home up I-95.

There wasn’t much traffic on the road, so I opted to make a stop for a part I needed at the old Miami Bearing Company office - NW 5th Avenue and 54th St. Pulling in to their one-way-out gated parking lot, I woke up - as a group of 10-12 angry-looking young men inside the lot headed directly for me. I put the VW into reverse but quickly realized I couldn’t back straight out.

I reached for the glove compartment, stuck my hand inside, and waited. My message was clear - they instantly reversed direction, and I turned around at my leisure. I had nothing inside the compartment but a box of tissues. That changed.

Something similar happened to me in a Colorado supermarket parking lot a few years back. Two amish approached my car window and started mouthing off, I reached under my shirt and eased out my .380, they left in a hurry.

That is twice that showing a gun has saved my a** without firing a shot.
