A new documentary highlighting former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palins executive experience and rise through Alaskas political ranks is set to hit theaters in a few weeks.
At an advance screening, The Daily Caller has learned that the film, The Undefeated, walks viewers through how Palins anti-establishment conservatism drove her first into the Wasilla mayors office and then into the Alaska governors mansion.
The documentary begins with a montage of national mainstream media and Hollywood attacks on Palin when she was John McCains 2008 running mate, then cuts to never-before-seen childhood home videos of Palin. The story builds from there.
Palin faced an uphill political battle since her mayoral days in Wasilla, and the media hasnt been friendly to her either. The film depicts her as one who was never willing to just play politics in her years as Alaskas chief executive.
After her mayoral days, the film moves onto when Republican Gov. Frank Murkowski appointed Palin to head the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and serve as its ethics supervisor. It was there that Palin had her first big fight against someone from her own party. The documentary shows how Palin took on Alaska GOP Chairman and fellow commission member Randy Ruedrich for doing party business on the taxpayers dime and leaking confidential information to oil industry insiders.
Because she was having political difficulty dealing with the corruption inside Alaskas Republican Party and the administration she was a part of, Palin resigned from her six-figure salary to try to take on the Corrupt Bastards Club, as she called it, from the outside, according to the film. She took the story to the people instead of trying to deal with it within the broken system.
Ultimately, she won. Ruedrich was fined and Palin skyrocketed in Alaska politics. As the films director Stephen K. Bannon told TheDC, Palins not only one of the brightest political minds in America, shes also one of the most genuine and honest.
“I’ve been fortunate in my life to work with the best and brightest in this country, Bannon said, referencing his days with Goldman Sachs and the United States Navy and his current contacts in Hollywood. Gov. Palin could match up in intelligence and drive with anyone I know.”
After she won the battle within her own party, Palin decided to put a shoestring grassroots gubernatorial campaign together. She knocked Murkowski, a career politician, out of the race in the 2006 primary, and went onto become governor of the 49th state.
Like many things Palin does, her inauguration was untraditional. She decided to have her inauguration ceremony in Fairbanks, instead of Juneau.
Its almost like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Bannon said. Its Mrs. Palin goes to Juneau.
The documentary attempts to highlight Palins executive experience. When the state legislature dumped an eleventh-hour budget on her desk in June 2007, Palin stayed up all night and got to work with her line-item vetoes, the film depicts. The movie shows how her tenacity apparently astonished the mainstream media in Alaska. Several television anchors note in the film that they couldn’t believe that she actually followed through on her promise.
“One of my objectives was to drive the stake in the heart of the ‘Caribou Barbie’ meme, Bannon told The Daily Caller. She is no Caribou Barbie.
A major theme of the movie is to depict Palins fights with oil companies. Her first big run-in with Big Oil was when she took down the Corrupt Bastards Club. Then, when she was in the governors office, she got the oil companies to actually start drilling in Alaskas North Slope, instead of letting the oil sit in northern Alaska reserves until the resources price was right to drill.
Palin’s staffers contacted Bannon last fall after the 2010 midterm elections to see if he’d make some short, 15-20 minute promotional videos for her. He said, “No,” but what he would do is go make a feature-length documentary about Palin. He financed it himself and it’s set to come out in theaters sometime in the next month or so.
The film uses audio of Palin from when she did an audio version of her book “Going Rogue,” but she never did any interviews for the documentary. Bannon instead said he wanted to tell her story through the people who were closest to her and worked with her.
Its unclear as of yet how much effect this film will have on a potential 2012 presidential campaign for Palin, but RealClearPolitics Scott Conroy, who wrote the book “Sarah From Alaska,” called it Palin’s “secret weapon.”

She is so unconventional in communicating directly with the country without the media, why isn’t this film on line so that we all can see it without having to be lucky enough to be near one of these few theaters who might screen it?
“Game changing”
She doesnt own the rights to the film but Brannon will showcase it in IA, NH, NV and SC first then take it nationally and after that DVD and on-demand
I DON’T KNOW THE ANSWER, BUT.....I HAVE A FEELING THIS PALIN FILM WILL BE AVAILABLE ONLINE RATHER QUICKLY AND WILL BE VIEWED BY MILLIONS!!!! OWARD, PALIN, CAIN, WEST & BACHMAN!!!!
I wanted throttle an acquaintance of mine who was telling me about the book “Game Change”. They began by telling me how it ripped into Bill and Hitlery Clinton. This was done because the acquaintance knows how little I think of those two.
Then the attack on Palin came...”She is soooo unqualified to be President, and this book proves it. I mean, they had to give her “index cards” about issues.”
I informed the young sheep that ALL candidates have index cards as tools. A bit dumbfounded, the only retort was that “she needed more than usual.” I was also told Palin was a panicky, whiney girl.
Instead of doing what I normally do—respond by unleashing a fury of attack upon the obvious DISASTER in the White House and how Palin’s ideas are better than the communist-influenced ideology currently occupying the Oval Office—I just smiled and laughed.
The conversation quickly ended.
If it does it looks like it will be a hit, considering all the media attention Palin draws.
Bannon ... Gov. Palin could match up in
intelligence and drive with anyone I know.
It will go national after it’s screened in the early primary states.
Good job. You can't reason with most liberals.
She’s not the maker of the film. She didn’t contract with Bannon. He owns all the rights - distribution and otherwise.
And sour grapes don’t forget.
That’s what I’ve started doing too. Just laughing. Or saying something like, “Listen very closely to what you just said... ‘panicky, whiney girl’ indeed.”
Very appropriate. People who talk like children should be treated like children. Don't let them into adult conversations until they can demonstrate the ability converse like an adult.
I see it being a Palin/Cain ticket or a Cain/Palin ticket!!! There are others, too. Like Bachman, West, Rubio, Ryan, etc. Now....to be honest a Herman Cain/Sarah Palin ticket would be awesome. The Black/Female combo would truly make America the land of the free (all) and home of the brave (all)!!! Hey, maybe even some Blacks would realize that the Cain way way is the way American Blacks should be trucking!!! I doubt it, but....one always has to have hope. American Blacks have no idea how much POTUS Obama is setting them back. Sad....but true!!!
Thanks for the post. Take the cap lock off.
That Murkowski garbage was the ultimate slap at Palin when she did the right, honorable thing. Why Palin beat ole FRank 51% to 19% in repub primary, the people knew the truth and it grated them.
Palin did great things as gov too, most importantly sent many of the filthy corrupt repubs off to the big house or political obscurity. Sad to say, now Parnell is letting the same ones come crawling back into state govt. Palin never did what the repub party told her and would govern like a libitarian conservative with a cost benefit analysis mind set, no joke. She demands good effective cost efficient government. She always looks at what benefits the people the most and you find that once in many dems really like her and support her agenda. It makes palin a very effective executive that is able to get much of her legislation passed into law.
I actually watched Palin do things that stunned me over the years, but in retrospect, she proved to be a much better judgment of what is needed for the future than I and I will always trust her judgment because of what I have witnessed myself over the years here in Alaska. Believe me, Palin will shake things up and that is what we ultimately need in this Country. No JOke.
Zing. I learned a long time ago, the hard way, that it really does no good to espouse reason to those who refuse to reason. No, I endeaver to leave the liberal voters with doubt, anyway that I can. If I was there at this conversation, I would have pointed out how BOTH Obama and Palin are unqualified to be President and that is pretty pathetic for Obama considering he is getting on-the-job training as we speak. The point again is to deflate the liberals view - to make him FEEL the doubt.
