Sarah Palin Explains Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride

Sarah Palin Explains Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride

Jim Newell— It's been at least a few seconds since we last checked in on Sarah Palin's Tour de Grift, which stopped yesterday in Olde Boston Towne. Her bus visited such historical sights as Paul Revere's old shack, where Palin explained the colonist's famous "midnight ride" before the 1775 battles at Lexington and Concord.

The Internet is aflame in scholarly debate over this interpretation:

He who warned, uh, the British that they weren't going to be taking away our arms uh by ringing those bells and making sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed.

Perhaps we should all brush up on our history of such events should we ever get trapped like this, but this may include some inaccuracies. Revere did not warn the British army to step off by ringing bells in their faces and shooting warning shots at them. That would have been counterproductive. Instead, he notified the appropriate colonists in an alarm system chain to give advance warning for protecting the rebel arsenal in Concord.

Sarah Palin would've shot all those Lobsterbacks good, though, one by one.

Thanks for the info on what really happened that night. No doubt it will come in handy because I expect some will bring this up pretending to have “political discussions”. I watched the video and it would help Sarah’s credibility if her delivery was better.

Paul Revere? That’s the guy who was on the breathalizing inhalator, right?

Yeah....no I don’t think the American Revolution was fought over the right to bear arms. Although it was pretty convenient that all those guys who had to hunt to eat would also be able to use the guns to win the fight for freedom.

But I’m pinging my favorite historian in case I’m wrong.....

Oh balogna...there was more truth in her words than there was error. The MSM is going to be hysterical if her mascara runs.

At least she didn’t say she’s going to tour all fifty-seven states, her distant relative that never knew her liberated Austwitz so that makes her patriotic, or that the Selma bridge got her born when the march was 4 years later.

RUN, SARAH RUN!

You are more than willing to do the anti-Palin group think thing. Simple question: Was Palin right on her history?

Her delivery was fine. Watch it again, after you know the history. She was making a point. Her point was clear. Those who think her delivery was poor are listening not to her, but to what they are told she should have said.

If she parroted schoolboy history that everybody knows, would that have made her smarter or a better master of “delivery”?

She didn’t. She pushed the envelope. She gave us all — all who would listen — a more advanced lesson in AMERICAN history.

The British were marching on Concord and Lexington to seize the arms of the militia. I guess you forgot that historic fact. Palin got it right. The militamen were not going to allow their guns to be taken.

I listened to it, again thanks for the link, but her delivery could have been better. It is not what she said it is how she delivered it. Feel free to think otherwise. No further lecture by you to me is necessary.

There are mistakes that speak of ignorance, and mistakes that come from speaking without a teleprompter. Here is the sentence again:

“He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms uh by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed.”

That is your mind going faster than your tongue. Yes, she KNEW that Paul Revere wasn’t warning the British. Her mouth combined two thoughts - Paul Revere gave warning, and the British were not going to get the guns. Let me help you:

1 - “He who warned, uh...uh by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed.” and

2 - “uh, the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms uh”

Significantly, there are uhs present. Anyone who speaks a lot in front of people will sometimes combine sentences in an ugly manner. If she had WRITTEN this, I’d be freaked.

But SPEAKING, with a thousand people listening (or even 2-3 in my living room, for example), using no notes and not reading a prepared script, then yes, you will get combined thoughts at times.

To be honest, I’ve never accused Obama of thinking there were 57 or 58 states. That was a tongue getting several things twisted, just as Palin now did.

What would worry me, in an election, is that we have a baby-killing, anti-free enterprise, union thug who hates America in office. And Palin is just one of the candidates I’d be proud to vote for to throw the bastard out. For the record, I’m GLAD she speaks from the heart and not from prepared transcripts. Can you imagine our socialist in chief? He speaks to little kids while using a teleprompter!

I agree but they weren’t planning to go house to house to disarm the citizens. They were looking for a supply cache which had already been moved. And he was not warning the British, he was warning the Colonists. That’s the key.

Face it, it was a mess. You can spin it all you want but if Biden had given this rambling nonsensical statement we would be hooting and hollering. The “uhs” and “ands” were reminiscent of Zero. It was bad.

Palin is not ready for prime time. She’s great on the issues but doesn’t think very well on her feet.

No, but my litmus test is that any candidate for president have a functioning brain in his or her head. Palin in 2012 all but guarantees BO an eight year run.

Revere did warn the British that they would be able to take the arms of the colonial militia. He did this after they captured him, so that they would either release him or turn back to Boston.

OK you’re getting far afield.

I admire your loyalty to Palin but she wasn’t talking about “after he was caught” she was talking about his eponymous Ride.

C’mon now!

That is all your own fantasy of her thoughts. While that might be so, it is more likely she had recently heard an astute docent’s story of Paul Revere’s ride which went into how he was captured by the British and at that time did indeed warn the British that all the sound of church bells and gun shots they were hearing meant that hundreds of militiamen were turning out, and the small British force would not be able to act against them.

She said what she said. And what she said was all 100% historically accurate.

I don’t give lectures. But folks hear them by their own choice. All I do is just discussion between friends. Impassioned, chip-on-shoulder, and maybe arrogant sounding, but still, just amiable chatter at heart.

He was caught as PART OF THE RIDE ... soon after 1 AM. Dr Prescott got away. Revere was doing a little psyops on the British captors and eventually they got so spooked they let everyone go, stealing Revere's horse (Brown Beauty) in the process. Revere made it back to the Hancock-Clarke parsonage and to his horror found Hancock and Adams still arguing about what to do.

Revere played a very significant role throughout the night of the 18th and the morning of the 19th. I could go on and on. He earned his poem.

Consider that Sarah and her family toured the Revere house, not Buckman Tavern. Therefore she recently heard the story not from the battle perspective but from the Revere perspective. I would be surprised if they omitted the story of his capture. From this Sarah got the gist of the story correct. See post 43.

Good enough. At least she knows who to shoot.

If you landed obuma at Dunkirk, he’d be shooting every Brit in sight.

And at Pearl Harbor, obuma would be steering the Jap mini-sun torpodoes toward the Arizona.

9-11? Obuma would be shooting the unfortunate souls jumping from the towers.

Sarah’s words without the “uh” included (which is what would happen with any “quote” of Obama or Reid or Pelosi, etc.):

On Paul Revere:
HE WHO WARNED THE BRITISH THAT THEY WEREN’T GOING TO BE TAKING AWAY OUR ARMS, BY RINGING THOSE BELLS AND MAKING SURE AS HE’S RIDING HIS HORSE THROUGH TOWN TO SEND THOSE WARNING SHOTS AND BELLS, THAT WE WERE GOING TO BE SECURE AND WE WERE GOING TO BE FREE, AND WE WERE GOING TO BE ARMED.

And the problem with this off the cuff, unrehearsed remark was.....?
