In his first public appearance since leaving the post in September, Dagan said earlier this month that the possibility a future Israel Air Force attack on Iranian nuclear facilities was "the stupidest thing I have ever heard."

Dagan's words speak for themselves.

Most especially now that we have an Israeli hating muslim in the white house.

Obama will no doubt leave Israel twisting in the wind.

The man is probably right, but why is he making it public?

“We could not withstand an attack” seems to invite one.

Meir Dagan speaks in public only when his words are the agreed upon voice of the Israeli intelligence/military brass.

That goes across any political/ideological/socioeconomic disagreements within the IDF and intel community.

THis isn't new thinking, Danny Ayalon and Ehud Barak have spoken similarly for years.

THe only politicians in Israel who are gun-ho about attacking Iran are Russian parties (heh, hint hint) who take on the position of firebrand at the request of the IDF/Mossad loyal to Sharon's grander longterm visions, to provide Israelis with a false sense of dichotomies in the democratic process.

Everyone in the neighborhood knows it, so it's not like Dagan speaking out at this point is going to be a epiphany revelation for interested parties.

The Samson Option is a term used to describe Israel’s alleged deterrence strategy of massive retaliation with nuclear weapons as a “last resort” against nations whose military attacks threaten its existence, and possibly against other targets as well.[1] Israel refuses to admit it has nuclear weapons or to describe how it would use them, an official policy of nuclear ambiguity, also known as “nuclear opacity.” This has made it difficult for anyone outside the Israeli government to definitively describe its true nuclear policy, while still allowing Israel to influence the perceptions, strategies and actions of other governments.[2]

Israel would not withstand a regional conflict ignited by an Israeli strike of Iran's nuclear facilities

If Israel were attacked from all sides with the full strength of the enemy's might they'd likely have to exercise the Samson Option to survive, and those enemies would then be incinerated. If the attack against Israel is less intense and conducted by only one or two nations, the Israelis would be able to handle it conventionally.

Either way, Israel survives.

"Israel would not withstand a regional conflict ignited by an Israeli strike of Iran's nuclear facilities..."

But they can withstand nuke strikes from Iran?

“In his first public appearance since leaving the post in September, Dagan said earlier this month that the possibility a future Israel Air Force attack on Iranian nuclear facilities was ‘the stupidest thing I have ever heard.’”

The Israeli attack on Iran begins 3, 2, 1...

IMO, this is Psy-Ops!

The Israelis were not the least bit bashful when they blasted the Syrian nuclear facility in 2007. They just pretended that it didn’t happen until a week later when Bibi admitted it. There was no reaction from Arab states to the attack on Syria and Iran isn’t even Arab!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Orchard

“Operation Orchard[2][3] was an Israeli airstrike on a nuclear reactor site[4] in the Deir ez-Zor region[5] of Syria carried out just after midnight (local time) on September 6, 2007.”

“According to a Wikileaks cable, the Syrian government placed long-range missiles armed with chemical warheads on high alert after the attack but did not retaliate fearing an Israeli nuclear counterstrike.[56]

“No Arab government besides Syria has formally commented on the September 6 incident. The Egyptian weekly Al-Ahram commented on the “synchronized silence of the Arab world.” Neither the Israeli nor Syrian government has offered a detailed description of what occurred.”

Haaretz is a ridiculous liberal paper who has been writing variations of this same article for over a decade.

The Samson option in this case would mean striking a secret deal with Saudi Arabia. or China.

Dagan is speaking for himself and that fxxxxxxxxxxx climbing wxxxxxx Tzipi Livni, who essentially runs the opposition in Israel. Dagan was given his position by the equally vacuous lecher, Ehud Olmert.
If you want to see the tactical genius of these three, remember the latest Lebanon war.

Carter gave us this islamic state.

Obama will give us this same state, armed with nuclears.

We are so 1970’s again it makes me want to puke.

This is end of the world stuff here. Thankfully most out there are to slow or too young or too evil to care what is coming.

I have posted about it before...Israel can handle Iran all by itself. But it would be better and cost less Iranian lives if the USA was backing Israel up. That won’t be happening with Zero at the helm.

With US help the inevitable crushing of Iran would be a strictly conventional affair. Israel on its own will be forced to use neutron weapons to control the Iranian nuclear sites.

There will be no images of destroyed cities and no fallout spreading across the globe. But still it will be a shock for the world to awaken one day soon and realize that a type of nuclear device has been used.

We better hope the war can be contained once neutron weapons are used on the battlefield, it’s definitely coming because Israel WILL be forced to attack Iran alone because we were stupid enough to elect the Won. There is only 0.00 chance that Israel will not be forced into this horrific mess. The Iranian nukes must be destroyed.

One of the main reasons the Arab states get support from the west is the oil.

If Israel has to fight another major war for its survival they need to grab control of a large percentage of that oil.
This will ensure several things, no boycotts - a boycott of Israel means you get no oil. the seizing of oil assets is a radical step but just how damn long does Israel have to be attacked before radical steps are justified?

Israel could take control of the Suez canal, and control of Iranian oil production...this would be tough, but within the capabilities of an Israel who has taken off the gloves. Control of Saudi oil would be easiest for Israel. Israel should permanently annex the Sinai and Suez if there is another war with Egypt...ensure control of Egypt by rigging the Aswan dam for destruction on a moments notice. The ability to destroy the Aswan and the muslim holy sites on a moments notice would give pause to anyone who might desire to attack Israel again.

Let the entire west kowtow to Israel to ensure a steady supply of oil. Kowtowing to the Arabs has been a disaster.

These things I am saying sound pretty outlandish I know, but once you realize that some day very soon Israel is going to be forced to use nuclear weapons against her adversaries they do not seem so out of bounds. The world letting Iran get nuclear weapons is what is going to bring the world to this disaster. It will be Israel’s time to finally take decisive action in her own interests.

After watching the movie “Lebanon” last nite I would say Israel has bigger problems then the hypothetical Iranian nuke threat. It was like watching Howard Wollowitz from “Big Bang” go to war.
