A federal judge has ordered a Texas school district to prohibit public prayer at a high school graduation ceremony.
Chief U.S. District Judge Fred Bierys order against the Medina Valley Independent School District also forbids students from using specific religious words including prayer and amen.
The ruling was in response to a lawsuit filed by Christa and Danny Schultz. Their son is among those scheduled to participate in Saturdays graduation ceremony. The judge declared that the Schultz family and their son would suffer irreparable harm if anyone prayed at the ceremony.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said the school district is in the process of appealing the ruling, and his office has agreed to file a brief in their support.

“The judge declared that the Schultz family and their son would suffer irreparable harm if anyone prayed at the ceremony.”
The Schultz kid must be a real wuss. :p
These parents should keep this fragile flower home in a bubble. Mommy and Daddy will not be able to hold his hand through life.
This is what happened in our little Tennessee town:
“Roane County High School Kingston, Tennessee:
This is a statement that was read over the PA system at the football game at Roane County High School, Kingston, Tennessee by school Principal Jody McLoud,
on September 1, 2000. It clearly shows just how
far this country has gone in the wrong direction.
“It has always been the custom at Roane County High School football games to say a prayer and play the National Anthem to honor God and Country.
Due to a recent ruling by the Supreme Court, I am told that saying a prayer is a violation of Federal Case Law.
As I understand the law at this time, I can use this public facility to approve of sexual perversion and call it an alternate lifestyle, and if someone is offended, that’s OK.
I can use it to condone sexual promiscuity by dispensing condoms and calling it safe sex. If someone is offended, that’s OK.
I can even use this public facility to present the merits of killing an unborn baby as a viable means of birth control. If someone is offended, no problem. I can designate a school day as earth day and involve students in activities
to religiously worship and praise the goddess, mother earth, and call it ecology.
I can use literature, videos and presentations in the classroom that depict people with strong, traditional Christian convictions as simple minded and ignorant and call it enlightenment. However, if anyone uses this facility to honor God and ask Him to bless this event with safety and good sportsmanship, Federal Case Law is violated.
This appears to be inconsistent at best, and at worst, diabolical. Apparently, we are to be tolerant of everything and anyone except God and His Commandments.
Nevertheless, as a school principal, I frequently ask staff and students to abide by rules which they do not necessarily agree. For me to do otherwise would be inconsistent at best, and at worst, hypocritical. I suffer from that affliction enough unintentionally. I certainly do not need to add an intentional transgression.
For this reason, I shall, “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s,” and refrain from praying at this time. However, if you feel inspired to honor, praise and thank God, and ask Him in the name of Jesus to bless this event, please feel free to do so. As far as I know, that’s not against the law- yet.”
AND...one by one, the people in the stands bowed their heads, held hands with one another, and began to pray.
They prayed in the stands. They prayed in the team huddles. They prayed at the concession stand. And they prayed in the announcer’s box. The only place they didn’t pray was in the Supreme Court of the United States of America - the seat of “justice” in the one nation under God. Somehow, Kingston, Tennessee, remembered what so many have forgotten... we are given the Freedom OF Religion, not the Freedom FROM Religion. “

Bet he would never, ever issue that type of a ruling on Muslim Students.
Or better yet, pray for the kid, his family and the Judge, that they abandon their atheistic ways and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
That would REALLY create a baseball sized hail storm.
If Christians really want to fight this infringement of their exercise of religion, they should have the Christian students pick up their diplomas at school and then meet at a local church for a service of thanksgiving that these young people have graduated. Cut the school completely out of the celebration. Let this whiny atheist and his parents and the cowards in the school administration hold their very short anti-God graduation on school grounds.
That is WONDERFUL!!!!
People should have a contingency plan for events such as that.
Stand up and either start singing *God Bless America* or reciting the Lord’s Prayer, or Psalm 23, something widely known.
People would join in.
So if someone stands up and starts reciting the Lord's Prayer and the entire audience joins in, what are they going to do? Arrest everyone?
They'd get a big lesson in jury nullification.
Excellent solution. If only they would do it, the slap to the judiciary would be epic.
They did in Pace, FL a couple years ago.
What a hoot if the entire graduating class moved the ceremony to a nearby church and let the little whiner walk the stage himself with only his parents watching, instead of making him the center of attention.
Freedom of religion ping
This..is..war...!
Too few blows have been struck into flesh, and that’s all I’m going to say.
Yeah, going to Hell can really put a damper on having a nice day.
Why not have a mass prayer outside before the event begins?
Why must people who are not of your religion be forced to pray your prayer?
Would you be OK with a Muslim lead prayer?
Matthew 6:5-6 King James Version (KJV)
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Tell the Judge to go to hell.
I can tell you what kind, a heretic and a fraud.
I remember that, it made the paper big time. Pace is 15 minutes down the road from here.
