"Cain’s pizza was the best — I mean, who didn’t love Godfather’s Pizza?"

Well, it was Okay, but for truly great pizza you need to come to Da 'Burgh and go to either DeMino's in Brookline or Vincent's out in Forest Hills and get you a Vinnie Pie.

but that Bristol comment wasn't going to fly with a certain someone with the power of Thor.

He was probably busy doing something else, so he just used the *Tack Hammer* of the gods instead of going out to the tool shed of the gods and getting the sledge.

Probably why I didn't see the flash or hear the thunder :^)

Am I the only one that thinks conservatives are falling into the whole cult of personality with regard to Sarah Palin much the same way the Left did with Obama?

I'll treat this as serious, because it deserves a thoughtful answer whether it was meant as a concern troll question or sincerely. The enthusiasm for Palin is not based on her being white, female, pretty, in an interracial marriage, or anything else peripheral to the job. She was, until the far left attacked her for two years, the most popular governor in the country. I had already studied her record during the disappointing early 2008 primaries and selected her as the candidate I wanted to see in 2012, based on substance, values, and qualifications. Her support comes from those strengths, not just reading of a teleprompter or her diversity score.

I’m not comfortable with her just bailing on Alaska,

I was not thrilled with it either, but I re-read her resignation more calmly a week later, read the facts on the lawsuits and ethics charges, and agreed with her decision. I didn't like the call then and still am not thrilled because it does weaken her as a candidate, but it was the right decision for Alaska, and I admire that level of character.

she’s the one that allowed Levi Johnston to knock up her daughter,

Give me a break! Teenage boys have 24/7 to get into a girl's pants and think about almost nothing else. I'm not going to blame the Mom for every time that happens. In fact, with Todd as the father, I am VERY surprised that a wimp like Levi had the guts to do it.

and I don’t want a reality TV. candidate

Really? A tourist show about her state? I see nothing wrong with that. Sorry, but that objection screams "concern troll". She is a serious political leader who has appeared on a dignified TV show.

I want a serious conservative thinker with the stomach for policy. I’d much rather have Michele Bachmann or Herman Cain.

She is a serious conservative thinker with the stomach for policy. BTW, you mentioned two of my other three favorites. I also like DeMint. Any of the four has the potential to save America as a free country. Otherwise, 2012 will be different from any other election in our history. If Obama occupies our White House for 8 years, or if we elect a statist RINO like Romney, America will not survive as the country we used to know - not without a second civil war. I hope and pray that there is a peaceful way to undo the horrific damage done by Obama, starting in 2012.

You’re right - I support Jim DeMint first, because he is by far the most conservative person whose name has even been tossed around - more so than Sarah Palin.

I would support Herman Cain second, since he’s also very conservative, and I’m willing to give him a mulligan on the 2008 TARP support thing (IIRC, he’s admitted to being wrong on that, btw).

I would support Pawlenty next, because his record in Minnesota, while not perfect, is reasonably good, and frankly, he’s probably the kind of mainstream (but not FReeper redmeat) conservative who would still govern to the right most of the time, while still being “electable.”

Next would be a cluster with Palin, Santorum, Rick Perry, Butch Otter, and a few others in it - all folks who have a few drawbacks, but are much better than worse - but who just don’t “excite” me politically.

Romney, Huckabee, Giuliani, Ron Paul, Gary Johnson - all of them are right out.

So yeah, I’m not ashamed to support others ahead of Palin, and I don’t see any reason why I should be.

“What specific policy position or action taken as an elected official do you disagree with in regards to Governor Palin?”

Well, the tough ethics reform law she championed, which was then used to hound her from office, clearly could have been better thought out.

Palin says all the right things. But can she manage a large, unruly bureaucracy? Does she know how to handle “experts?” These are important skills for a president.

The campaign will be a good test. If she can get her negatives down to the point where she’s actually a viable candidate, then she’ll have proved she deserves the nomination. If she runs, that is.

For now, I’m a Herminator.

You nailed it. What really drives the Palin zealots is the cult of personality. Palin’s version is virtually identical to Obama’s Marxist version, but with different political views. In both cases you have two unqualified, ignorant candidates, who only get by on media attention and charisma fueled by the cult of personality and celebrity.

Palin is all about Palin, that is painfuly obvious. The bus tour is about HER, not the country. She draws attention to herself with her reality tv show, with her daughter cashing in on “dancing with the stars”, etc.

People try to compare her to Reagan, which is a complete joke. The left hated RR, but he knew how to handle them by getting the people on his side. He did not confront them directly like Palin does. Palin does not have the skill to unite this country any more than Barry does.

I do not like any of the candidates right now, but the Huckster and Sarah are at the bottom of my list of electable candidates. POTUS is not the reality show Barry makes it out to be, it takes an uncommon person to lead our nation. Palin is not that person.

Herman Cain supported TARP bailouts.

I've also read that he supported Mitt Romney. I'm willing to forgive and forget. I could support him for 2012 but right now Sarah's my pick>

I was reluctant to dive into her mosh pit, too.

I decided to take a wait and see attitude.

Gotta say, she’s way ahead of anyone else out there!

Like oil industry executives, lobbyists and the politicians that suck up to them?

“.....About her leaving her job as governor, she wasn’t able to govern because the MSM and liberals were constantly suing her and hounding her, she did the state of Alaska a favor....”

The thing about all those frivolous and bogus ‘ethics’ complaints...... The libs and the establishment Republicans, AND the MSM, were attempting to bury and destroy Sarah Palin. They saw her as a threat to their existence and wanted her OUT of the picture. They wanted her so broken and tainted that she would not be a threat to them any longer. Too many conservatives, including me, were already thinking of 2012 and Palin leading that charge. So they tried to kill her, politically.

She did right by Alaska, removing herself, and allowing state business to return to it’s normal functions.

They thought they’d won the battle, won their war against her. They totally underestimated this woman, AND those of us who support her. I don’t think she’s perfect. I don’t view her as an ‘icon’ to be revered or worshipped. That would be idolatry. As a Christian, I worship God, not man/woman. I DO see her as a leader with her head set squarely on her shoulders..... with values I share and a lot of really good common sense.

BTW, I’m the mother of a girl, who used to be a teenager. I’ve been in the same situation with my child. You pick up the pieces and go on.... offering love and support.... for your child, not for the behavior.... and you love with all your heart the unexpected gift of a grandchild. In spite of the circumstances, I am so happy... grateful even, that my girl chose life. If there are those here on Free Republic who would consider me less of a conservative, less worthy of consideration, because of the actions of my daughter.... oh well. If there are those who use these circumstances in the lives of the Palins as an justification not to support her..... how incredibly ignorant and judgmental and shameful, of them.

Go Sarah... if you run, I will support and work for you.

I was actually at the very first rally she did after the nomination. It was in Cedarburg, Wi. and while Palin has charisma, she is woefully lacking in the other qualities a leader needs.

Her tenure in Alaska was cut short because she quit, and to me that is a huge red flag. When the going got tough, she quit and left to cash in on her fame. Nothing wrong with that, but then don’t try to use your cash and fame to get elected POTUS.
