Well, certainly a 3rd party would indeed guarantee an Obama reelection, but the upside is the spine chiller the GOP will get about paying attention to the conservative movement. We`re not dominant in numbers, but we can make a powerful electoral point.
I would only support a third party if the purpose was to "Whig" the GOP.
I don't want to merely get their attention. If we are forced to build a third party it's because the GOP refuses to go where we as a country must, because they collectively decide to be part of the problem.
I hope this is part of Palin's calculation.
The level of corruption and self-serving in the party structure is obvious to any reasonable observer. Cleaning out a state party, as she undertook in Alaska, is one level of challenge. It may be impractical to impossible to attempt to do so on a national level with 50 separate structures.
A third party may be the only vehicle to get us where we want to go.
Better than just a 'point', Scott! Sarah can gather enough electoral votes to deny either the D or R candidate enough to win.
In fact, she may even be able to gain the majority of the electoral votes.

Problem is the gop prefers to be in the minority. So long as they get their slice of the bootle, they’re happy. Being in the minority means never having to actually lead.
