Washington pundits have assumed that Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., cant stomach former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romneys moderate views and thus wont support him for president. Not so fast, says the conservative powerhouse, The Hill reports.
I havent stricken anybody off my list, or put anybody on it, really, said DeMint, who backed Romney last time around. And its going to be several months before I look at endorsing."

Good grief, another one bites the dust.
This is a common sense “in case he’s the nominee” response.
Not news at all.
Meaningless statement like saying the honorable gentlemen from Nevada. Get a grip man.
There’s enough out there to reject him.
Fellow Freepers, I’m sorry. He’s a rino that says things we like when it benefits him. But comments like this prove he is not Conservative at his core. Flame away.
Yeah, hurry and trash him for an innocuous statement that means nothing. Great job getting in first. Everyone on the short bus must be so proud.
Well, I won't reject him either automatically............if it's a matter of voting for Myth or Zero in 2012.
I certainly won't be voting for him in the primaries
Well if DeMint was so happy with Romney 2 weeks ago (the date of this article), then why is he starting to sound like he’s about to run himself.

Sounds like you will be endorsing Romney
Which means I will not be endorsing/voting for you, DeMint
Romney is STLL the worst choice even if he is the only choice.
Nice try anyway Jim.
No leadership whatsoever.

So ask JR and see what you get for an answer.
That is diplomacy, not RINOism. DeMint is a genuine conservative, one of the top four on my list (with Palin, Cain, and Bachmann). He does not want to provoke an internal squabble in which the RINO wing of the party (and we do need them!) response to what we really think of Romney by saying they will not support a conservative nominee. It’s better to be diplomatic, see who wins, and work like our lives, our fortunes, and our future depend on making sure a real American wins than it is too start an internal fight before we even get around to challenging the communist in our White House.
BTW, I will not vote for Romney under any circumstances. I’ll write in Palin or DeMint before I waste my vote on a RINO who will cement Obama’s policies in place.
Sorry to hear this, but not surprised. I’ll be a lot sorrier if Sarah Palin says a similar thing.
But we need to be philosophical about these kinds of statements. There are valid reasons for them.
They won’t get me to vote for Romney, however.
“He does not want to provoke an internal squabble in which the RINO wing of the party (and we do need them!)”
What we need is leadership - Look up how Alan West dealt with his Iraq problem. That’s what we NEED, not ‘diplomacy. Diplomacy is the art of giving up half of what’s right to get half of what’s wrong in return.
We need leadership, but we need smart leadership that keeps the vast majority of the GOP together and moving in the right direction while gathering independents. That act of leadership does require diplomacy. It also requires moving that group in the right direction and not just following random public opinion, and I’m still waiting to see if DeMint will do that part of the job. At the moment, Sarah Palin is #1 in the area of real leadership, and in return she is #1 on my list. I’m just unwilling to strike DeMint from that list over a single comment.
He is trying not to make a story where there isn’t one. DeMint is my first choice, i hope he runs.
