Wow, you can see the cars lined up in the right lane as the tornado follows the river south, then as it crosses the bridge, look at the lanes, the far side, as the tornado exits the bridge, there is a semi laying down in the left lane
One witness just said 5 blocks in Springfield are devastated. Brimfield, Monson, Worcester and Springfield were hit bad.
And Sturbridge.
I don’t think eastern MA has seen a tornado. I hear when a cell hits cool temps. it loses the energy it needs to twist.
I’ve seen wind sheer here, not many years ago, and that’s enough for me!
The last outbreak in MA that I remember being this bad was back on June 9, 1953 - the Worcester “White City” tornado.

Windsor Locks (CT, right near MA border) had a tornado in 1979, and Worcester had a major one in 1953. That one sucked my great-aunt out of her farmhouse and brought her about 200 feet from her house. She had back problems the rest of her life, but survived.
Watching my local CT news and the view of the tornado crossing the river is amazing.
okay folks...what does “semi” actually mean?....is there a “full” version?
In case you aren’t watching, Tornado watches have been issued for all Eastern MA except Cape Cod. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of such a thing.
Certainly a unique vantage point.
I’m older than most here, and I remember that tornado in Worcester in ‘53. I was a brand new nurse in Boston and they asked for volunteers to go help in the hospitals, so my roomies and I went. A swath of a flat mess, with the occasional refrigerator still standing. And one home would be wiped out with little or no damage to the one next door. (I’ll take hurricanes anytime!!)
The weatherman on Boston 7 TV just said that 50s tornado was the worst before this one.
Tornadoes are rare in Maine, but they do happen from time to time.
About a year or two ago one touched down in northern Maine, but it just tore through a forest and knocked down a bunch of pine trees. It didn’t hit any buildings.
I think they cancelled the tornado watch here in Maine....earlier, the watch area extended from Maine all the way down to southeast Pennsylvania.
Global warming!!
BUSH’S FAULT!!
... got any others?
I live in eastern Mass, and a tornado touched down here about 8-10 years ago. There’s been tornado warnings all evening.
I remember the Worcester tornado.
Scary stuff,
Your great aunt was fortunate to have survived.
Have you escaped the storms today?

Yes, we just had a few t-storms, nothing too bad. I’m much closer to LI sound and most of the bad weather was along the CT-MA border and further north. You?
Actually my entire family survived it—grandma, and her 2 brothers and 1 sister. They even had a radio survive it despite demolishing the farm house. The radio manufacturer used it in an advert.
