Sarah's Real Accomplishments
1 June 2011 | NewHampshireDuo

Sarah Palin accomplished many things as governor. In the period since the 2008 election she has been a relentless commentator on the political scene. I vaguely remember hearing her say perhaps one thing that I didn't agree with but in terms of the economy, energy, personal liberties, social ills, etc. she is spot on.

That said, since the ascension of Obama has Sarah initiated anything that can truly be traced to her as the originator of some positive action?

TOPICS: Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: palin
This post is a result of a question from a friend and Palin hater who simply asked "has she actually been responsible for fixing a problem in the past couple of years?" Certainly she's been a key component and catalyst in the conservative wave but I'm unsure as to any specific answers to the question.

She has made it politically incorrect to say the word “retarded.”

Notice the artificial limitation to that question. Two years ago, the crushing deluge of frivolous lawsuits forced her out of the position where she COULD, and WAS, fixing problems. Let’s take a look at her actual record as governor, shall we? Naw, that would scare the Palin haters...

She has not been in the capacity of ‘fixing’ things in the past couple years.

Her past as Governor however, was highly rated.

Has Obama as a president ‘fixed’ anything in the past couple years?

I believe she is in the process of fixing the MSM right now.

No, as she supports repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. She’s a feminist and she has to support those lesbians.

She came out of 2008 fighting, which over time, emboldened GOP officials, candidates and a movement, Palin’s first post November victory was in December 2008 when she put us over the top in a Governor’s race.

Palin gave us Death Panels and one of the great political years for either party in American history, in 2010.

As we speak, without Palin’s leadership and fearless example, and national unifying symbolism, the conservatives would not be holding their own in these battles with the left and the Romney/Rove/Cantor GOP.

Without Palin the conservative outbreaks of the last couple of years would have been regional, limited, isolated, and largely prematurely smothered by the machines of both parties and the media.

She was instrumental in getting people elected in 2010, which effectively removed control of congress from the hands of the democrats. There is no greater accomplishment than that.

Good comments on the thread - thank you.

Gosh, I had pushed the death panels to the back of my mind but that one was so true.

I think Palin’s greatness has only just begun.

"has she actually been responsible for fixing a problem in the past couple of years?"

Ah yes, the "fix it" mentality of liberals. Ask any of them what qualities they want in a president, and 9 out of 10 times they will answer, because he/she can "fix what's wrong with this country."

So what we really need is a Mechanic-in-Chief! A Fixer!

Sorry for the sarcasm. But if your dialogue continues with this individual, you might tell them that conservatives don't think the government can, or is supposed to "fix things." A brief perusal of our founding documents bears this out (though your friend might not know what you're talking about when you mention "founding documents"). We think that when government stays in the background, that a free people - left to their own devices, unconstrained and without an interfering government, are perfectly capable of maintaining their own economic well-being. The problems that liberals identify as needing to be "fixed" are, by and large, results of an intrusive and over-reaching government.

"Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed

The purpose of government is not to "take care of us." Government only has the powers which are granted by its citizens. This is a crucial point in understanding our republic, and one that just about any liberal is completely ignorant of.

That is who she is gunning for next.

But, the question was about her accomplishments up to now.
