CHICAGO (STMW) - Police did the right thing in closing a crowded North Avenue beach on Memorial Day after receiving a “tremendous amount” of calls about beach patrons suffering from heat exhaustion, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Tuesday. Emanuel said he was not consulted before the Chicago Police Department’s unprecedented decision to clear the beach and send patrons back to, in some cases, homes without air-conditioning. In fact, the mayor said he didn’t find out about it until the morning after.

Dateline — The Men-in-blue Line: Sneed hears Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s vigorous defense of the decision to close down the crowded North Avenue Beach on Memorial Day might be based on something more than beach patrons suffering from heat exhaustion.
Street gangs!
To wit: Sneed is told Mayor Emanuel “also” supported acting Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy’s decision to close the area because a growing number of loitering street gang members from different parts of the city had invaded the beach.
Translation: “The CPD was very concerned about an ever-enlarging number of loud, obnoxious and rude gang members who the cops feared might clash,” said one of two cop sources.
Hot stuff: “A gang presence down there is a growing concern and couple it with hot weather, it might have erupted into something horrifying. What beach do you know that closes down because of the heat? These gang members don’t set up shop with blankets and fruit baskets.”
Hmmm: Is that another reason why Mayor Emanuel said: “If they didn’t take those steps, there would be a different set of questions here — a whole other set of questions.”

What was reported by the news outlets was pure rubbish. No sane person CLOSES A BEACH BECAUSE IT IS TOO HOT. The beach was closed because urban gangs came from the west and south side of Chicago and overtook the city beaches. The media in Chicago makes up these stories to keep their access to City Hall. You don’t close beaches because the weather is too hot; you close them because you have lost control of the space. Rahm Emanuel is about to experience a baptism by fire.

My sweetie (who had been out of town at a wedding) did not know the goings on in Chicago until he went to his school Tuesday. He teaches at an all-black school and is one of only three non black staff members in the entire Catholic school. He learned of the beach incident in the teacher’s lunchroom. It was the talk of the place, evidently.
It’s worth mentioning here that his teaching partner is an African-American gal. She was a high school classmate of Michelle Obama. This lady is a traditional AA, no left winger at all. She routinely warns my sweetie, “When the sun is out, and it’s hot....the ‘brothers’ are out there, and I want you to get your ass out of here so you don’t get killed.” Can you imagine this?
And no, I’m not a racist. I’m Italian. My sweetie is a brave Indian.

They claim the violence at the beach was part of a coordinated effort. Do you really think that gangbangers in Chicago had some sort of teleconference with brothers in other cities to set up a weekend of mayhem? Did they also coordinate the weather?
I disagree with their thinking this was coordinated from one city to another. While I’m in S. Utah now, I heard nothing of this from my home base of Cleveland, for example. And I still have my finger on the pulse of Cleveland.
But it is reasonable to believe that it was coordinated city by city. This has been noted before. Philadelphia was one of the more notable examples. Social media can be a great thing, a force for good. It can also be used for less than noble things.
That said, what matters here is that Chicago officials continue to LIE about the whole melee. If you read the comments section the cop site links, you will learn why.
