Man killed in SWAT raid was under investigation 20 months, sheriff says
Arizona Daily Star ^ | 5/31/2011 | Fernanda Echavarri

The man killed in a SWAT team raid last month had been under investigation by The Pima County Sheriff’s Department for 20 months as part of a major drug and homicide investigation, Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said Tuesday during an editorial meeting with the Star. But details of the investigation into Jose Guerena’s activities won’t be released because a criminal informant for the sheriff’s department could be in danger, Dupnik said. “There’s a chance that our informant is going to get killed,” he said. Guerena died after SWAT officers fired 71 rounds from the front door of his home in the 7100 block of South Redwater Drive, while serving a search warrant on May 5, department officials have said. Guerena was shot 22 times and died at the scene, according to a preliminary report by the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office. See Wednesday's Arizona Daily Star for more of this story.

Storage is still on your property. You are straining very hard to excuse this, you must wear a badge. Even if Jose was guilty of something, killing him is an epic failure of law enforcement. Killing an innocent man, not getting him medical attention, covering your ass afterwards, and letting his 4 year old son step around the body, is beyond disgraceful in toto.

6 shots, 60 shots, now 22 shots,...so many details.

Funny how all the innocent people are at risk in Sheriff Dubnik’s county.

So they could have peacefully arrested him on the street at any time? Hell, why do that when you can just murder the guy?

sounds like more sand-dancing to me. He only purchased his house 2 months before. he was working 12 hour shifts at a mining company. he had NOTHING on his record but traffic tickets.

Drug dealers are lazy. That is why they are drug dealers instead of working an honest job. Drug dealers do not work 12 hour shifts at Asarco Copper Mining and or smelting. It is hot dangerous hard work.

The sheriff is either a blithering idiot or they had the wrong house. It may be both blitering idiot and the wrong house. Please note he bought the house two months prior.

A Marine would not go into a actively hostile combat situation with his rifle on safety. The news reports did not say if he had a round chambered. If they did not, I suspect he did not have a round chambered. He probably picked up his rifle just in case there were bad guys outside. He probably expected to find nothing or some punk kid. Swat guys saw a rifle in his hand and opened fire.

A Marine would not be crouched at the end of the hall in a stance for firing without a round in the chamber and the rifle off of safety. If a combat Marine was in this position he would have been ready to fire and would have gotten off a few rounds.

Why in the hell would they use the SWAT team to go after this (alleged drug dealer) in his home where there may be weapons and innocents around? It would have been very easy to arrest him at work with three cops not in uniform. If it was evidence they were after, a search warrant for his home and car would have been easy to obtain. I would much rather search an (alleged drug dealers) home and car knowing he is locked up in jail.

Why why why why were medical personnel denied access to the victim while he bleed out? Someone on the SWAT team must have known immediately that a major screw up had happened. The sheriff is in COVER HIS ASS mode. They F---ed Up big time and know it.

You haven’t read my posts on this matter if you think that I’ve given the law a slide on the issue.

I was speaking strategically. It would be dumb to keep frugs on your property that you’re trying to sell.

Well, sorry. I thought you were saying that of course the suspect wouldn’t have anything in the house.

"...investigated by the feds..."

AG Holder? Obama's Feds? Good luck with that. The dead Marine was the wrong color. Any race other than Black means he had it coming.

I know for a fact that many people are investigated for long periods of time and found to be innocent of any wrongdoing, of course they know that too so this is smoke and mirrors. People can and do come under suspicion for various reasons that doesn’t mean they are guilty of anything. At one time my sister came under heavy scrutiny of the DEA because she was (unknowingly) best friends with a major drug dealer’s wife. When the investigation was concluded and arrests were made my sister was never charged with anything and never bothered again. It was actually funny if you knew my sister- she was the most straight arrow person I ever knew.

Even if the man had a storage place other than on his property- something like a rental storage unit, you would think after a 20 month investigation they would know the location.

I know that. You misunderstood my post.

If Guevero had really been underneath surveillance for months, as the sheriff claimed, one of the things they would have known about the guy was that, even if he was in the drug trade, he wasn’t keeping anything meant for trafficking at his house.

Its stupid to do that. They find drugs, they take your house.

No, we’ve just been dealing with people who think that this was a perfectly reasonable murder. I guess I’m a bit sensitive.

Those cops should be charged immediately! What the hell has happened to our public servants where they have become our masters now? Such was the case before we took on the King of England.
