Transcript of Interview With Ichiro Ozawa

By YUKA HAYASHI And TOKO SEKIGUCHI

/snip

Q: If you had been in charge, would you have disclosed all the information about the meltdown in the initial stage?

A: Yes. I would have. There is no use in holding back information. We have to decide what to do, based on the premise of the information we have. This problem may be contained in Fukushima for now, but the contamination may spread outside of Fukushima. Anxiety and frustration are growing. People cannot live in the contaminated areas. These areas are becoming uninhabitable. Japan has lost its territory by that much. If we do nothing, even Tokyo could become off limits. There is a huge amount of uranium fuels in the plants, much more than in Chernobyl. This is a terrible situation. The government doesn't tell the truth and people live in a happy-go-lucky...

Q: Mr. Kan seems to have turned to many people for advice. What seems to be the problem?

A: It's not enough. Precisely, it's meaningless to put together a team made up exclusively of people who depend on nuclear power to make a living. All of them are members of the nuclear mafia. Did you see all those scholars saying "the crisis is not so terrible," "won't harm the health at all" on TV? What they say is meaningless because they depend on nuclear power for their livelihood. But people, and the Japanese media, don't understand it. The Japanese media is helpless.

/snip

A: That's another typical Japanese way of thought. No matter how much money it takes it must be done. With all that happening you can't live in Japan. Some day we may not be able to live in Japan.

It may not be just Japan. With all the Nuclear weapons floating out there, the whole world may become uninhabitable. Mankind has a built-in suicide wish. God help us all.

Explain to me why they are still living in Hiroshima and Nagasaki? In fact they are tourist attractions.

When we were taught duck and cover it was because it did work, not perfectly but it did work. Many people close to the blast and underground did survive with few problems.

We have been watching too many movies. Too many of us get our info from msm and the movies. Yes there will be problems...................

Except that “initial stage” information is too often inaccurate information and later when you try to correct it you get accused of falsification or incompetence and such things.

He is a very corrupt politician.

Believe me, I know of this from rather first hand. He was the protoge of Shin Kanemaru (who was on the bribe dole directly from North Korea--they found the Pyongyang-minted gold bars in his home in a safe...no stamps--prior to arrest), and of course Ozawa is just posturing politically on some of these things. Still, many aspects of Kan's performance have had a definite "keystone cops" flavor to it and Japan could certainly do much better in terms of leadership.

It is kind of like watching the "Crips" and the "Bloods" go at it. I mean, like, WHO are you going to support??

“Q: If you had been in charge, would you have disclosed all the information about the meltdown in the initial stage?

“Q: In hindsight, would you have done everything better and faster than anyone else at the time?

A: Yes. I would have.

The answer is the same to both.

More like LBJ(crook) vs Jimmy Carter(hapless imbecile.)
I think Kan Naoto is setting himself up to be Japan's Jimmy Carter.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed with A-Bombs.
H-Bombs are thermonuclear devices.
The difference between an A-Bomb and an H-Bomb is like the difference between a Lady-finger firecracker and a stick of TNT.....................

The A-bombs were also high air detonations to minimize fall
out from contaminated debris. We knew we were going in
shortly afterword.

Was that the reason, or was it to maximize destructive area?..............

I believe I got this information from Paul Tibbets book
“Flight of the Enola Gay”. Of course, like most history,
there could be several versions out there. Now this is gonna
bug me ‘til I've rooted through my books all day trying to
find where I got this!

pump the water out, put it into metal containers and sink it to the bottom of the middle of the ocean

When they DO leak (and they will) it will disperse so much you will never notice it above background radiation

Not understanding the comparison to any type of Nuclear bomb. One has limited amount of radioactive material while the Other has potentially huge volumes of radioactive material.

A 30km Buffer around the reactor amounts to roughly 4500 Sq miles that could be closed for several generations.
