I have been in Europe the past 3 weeks so what I have seen and heard of this is all from CNNinternational and what I could read when I had time.

The more I think about it, I have come to realize what about Obama’s speech bugs me the most. It is that he ‘gave’ something to the Palestinians and took from the Israelis, without taking anything from the Pals. To have been more balanced he could have added something about resettling Arab refugees outside of Israel. That would have helped push the two parties together.

Instead, he took from Israel, twice. First he took the settlement issue (last year) and by insisting that Israel stop building, for the first time the Pals took the issue as a precondition. It had never been a precondition before, for 20 years since Oslo, but then Obama made it one. He is more Palestinian than the Palestinians! Now he took from Israel a bargaining chip on the territory. He took nothing of any substance from the Pals other than complain about their deal with Hamas, which means nothing to them and only encourages them to take their case to the UN.

He is more Palestinian than the Palestinians!

That shouldn't shock anyone who knew about his background growing up in Muslim Indonesia, and later in Chicago hanging out with the likes of Rashid Khalidi and making alliances with Chicago's Arabs as a community organizer and state senator.

A good book about his Arabist sympathies and much more is Radical in Chief by Stanley Kurtz.
