In my view this is as much about economics as anything. From a financial perspective, government licensed marriage is a bad, bad deal. Moreso from the male perspective and if both are working.
This is all about government policy which is profoundly anti-marriage and anti-child.

Personally, if there are no children involved, and the couple is in their 20’s or older, I don’t have a problem with living together before marriage.

I think the first comment at the article gets it very close. Telling guys that you have to risk EVERYTHING to get married, whereas the girl can walk out the door with the kids any day she chooses, and into a life of luxury (i.e., no-fault divorce), pretty much assured this outcome.
And, no-doubt, that was the goal of the feminists from and the liberals overall from Day 1.
As I always tell a guy when he’s trying to figure out if he should marry a particular girl...ask himself what the girl’s friends and family would advise her to do if things get rough. Would they say “stick it out, make it work, that’s how we do things”, or would they say “I told you so, he’s a jerk, leave him”? And the best way to answer that question is to look at her friends and family. Are they still married to their first spouse?
For me it was an easy call. My wife is an immigrant with many siblings, all are married to their first spouse - same for her friends. And that’s the typical case still for her culture. My advice to guys is always the same, you can marry who you choose to, but there’s a 50% chance of future divorce if they’re born here, versus maybe a 10% chance of future divorce if they’re born in a country that still values marriage.
Every society has rules (either written or just understood).
While we may not always understand the reason for a specific rule, we can acknowledge that it was put in place for one reason and one reason only, survival.
Members of a society ignore or break these rules at their own peril.
This is why multi-cultural societies can not survive for long.
In a multi-cultural environment each culture brings in their own rules for behavior which over time will lead to conflicts and chaos.
The sexual revolution of the 1960s did not “free” woman, it instead remove societies protection and put many of them on the road to single motherhood and a life of poverty.
In general I think we all can agree that a two (married) parents (of opposite gender) raising a family together, is better for all than single parenthood.
There are exceptions but societies do not survive when the exceptions outnumber the majority.
