These people levying the fines are the same Environmental types who know nothing about trees or rivers. Here in Mtns they put beavers in areas where none ever existed, and fell trees into creeks at natural parks, so children can’t float down streams. They are kooks raised in city, with no common sense!

The church was fined $100 per branch cut...

Some mathematicians could be in deep trouble.

Some folks will not be happy until there is a law governing every activity of man. We’re almost there.

the left likes to say there is a separation of church and state

so why should the church bother to pay such a fine?

they exist outside the system

City of Charlotte is revenuing with tree pruning. I’d bet they are revenuing with outrageous traffic ticketing as well.

It’s get a lawyer time.

Ruling by creating laws to make innocent people guilty of something.

Anybody who doesn’t think that all this political correctness and environmentalism isn’t tearing a nation to shreds is just not mentally or morally awake.

It looks like they trimmed those trees within an inch of their lives.

I used to drive past a house where they did the same thing. They basically cut all the way to the trunk and then these itty bitty branches grow. This is mutilation and wasteful. This last year the trees finally gave up and died.

Get an arborist to trim your trees.

I thought there was no such thing as over-pruning a crape myrtle! Haven’t they ever heard of crape murder? I’ve seen them pruned back so far it looked like there was no possible way they would survive, but come summer, they were blooming in all their glory.

This and the story about the Missouri couple being fined $90,000 for selling more than $500 a year of rabbits need to go center stage with the Tea Party. Government is out of control. It’s time for revolution. I’m praying it will be peaceful as possible.

Were I in charge of landscaping at the church, I’d cut every trimmed tree down to the ground. Then I’d pay the fine for excessive trimming. And there would be no other trees planted on the property until the law is changed.

I love it when government steps in to help.

Someone on the local government must be in need of revenue dearly.

Big Brother has us so well trained that no one so much as said "private property" or "property rights". The state determines the best use for the land and the peasants comply. From the sixties culture, "The elderly rich couple lives in a four bedroom house and the poor single mother with five kids lives in a one bedroom apartment. This is the injustice of capitalism." Now the sixties culture is in charge at the federal, state and local levels.

This tree cutting is a symptom of a far more dangerous cancer.

Wouldn’t it be funny if the mayor and the city council members had their trees excessively pruned?

We have tree huggers here too:

“City trees” includes those trees between the sidewalk and the curb.

Tree Work Permit

Since the City of Ithaca is lucky enough to have such a large and diverse urban forest, we understand that work will have to be done near the City trees. The Division of Parks and Forestry hopes to work with contractors and property owners to complete necessary work with the least amount of harm done to City trees as possible.

A Tree Permit is required for any contractor or property owner that will be working within the drip line of a city tree (drip line is at the edge of the canopy. i.e. stand at the work location and look up; if there are branches above, you are within the drip line of the tree). The forester will sign the permit after making comments specific to the job. Periodic inspection will confirm that the general rules for working near City trees (second page of the tree permit) and the forester's comments specific to that tree permit are being followed.

Many of these trees are HUGE. The drip line, canopy, may cover your entire front yard.
