(Reuters) - Texas Governor Rick Perry on Friday ceremonially signed a bill making Texas the twelfth state to require photo identification from voters.
"Today we take a major step forward in ensuring the integrity of our electoral process in Texas, a major step protecting the most cherished right that we enjoy as a people," Perry, joined by lawmakers who supported the legislation, told reporters.
The measure was one of the Republican governor's "emergency" legislative priorities for the session, and he's not alone. Republicans across the country are pushing such legislation. This year, more than 30 states have considered adding or strengthening voter identification requirements, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Photo ID requirements were signed into law in Wisconsin this week and in South Carolina earlier this month. Kansas also passed a photo ID measure this year that goes into effect January 1.
The requirement is already in place in Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan and South Dakota. Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton on Thursday vetoed a photo identification bill.

It has worked great in Indiana. Voter fraud has gone way down.....and that will be an advantage to Indiana and republicans.
Have you ever noticed that you NEVER hear democrats complain about voter fraud? You would think it would be a bipartisan issue but the fact that the jackasses are silent on shows that they want voter FRAUD to win.
They incessantly bring up that there has been no significant voter fraud. But my question would be: how do they know? We have a secret ballot. How would anyone know if a secret vote cast was not cast by the eligible voter on the roles?
Think we’ll ever see it in NY?
Problem is, those who are cheating will just fill out absentee ballots. Those need to be addressed as well.
could you please name one example of Perry and rino-ism?
I live a mile or two from him and “thought” I was a good student of state politics?!
What a crock.....
Yes, I'll bet that they do. And it won't be because eligible voters are somehow being denied. When you clamp down on fraud, the Dems ALWAYS lose out. Strange how that happens.
It will require poll watchers at ever election site.
There are varying degrees of RINOism. After all, Perry did support most conservative initiatives in the state. What pegs him as a RINO is his lax border and illegal alien stance and his unforgivable support for the Trans-Texas Corridor.
Passed in tandem with this law should be the elevation of the crime of having a false I.D.
Of course he did. RATS need voter corruption to survive.
The “guardacil” (why don’t they just name it “slutacil?”) debacle was truly Perry’s moment of insanity. If he doesn’t veto the STATEWIDE SMOKING BAN, he will definitely be a RINO in more people’s mind.
He IS a RINO.
He's in good company...
That’s enough for me to vote for Perry, even if he is in favor for a path to citizenship

Obozo's schedule is full. The vacay, golf, playing President, golf, wagyu beef, the parties, golf...
Yep.
Perry is okay considering the alternatives.
“What pegs him as a RINO is his lax border and illegal alien stance and his unforgivable support for the Trans-Texas Corridor. “
What’s RINO about the TTC?
Granted, the project is so huge there’s something in it for everyone to hate: environment, toll roads, eminent domain, NAFTA, foreign investment, etc.
The TTC was a plan to develop Texas infrastructure (roads, rail, pipeline, energy, telecom, etc) to support economic and population expansion... The plan had flaws, but the objective was good.
Perry just needs better people around him to work the details.
No kidding. Then they brag about voting twice.
Could Reuters have chosen a more disturbing pic of Perry to include in the article?
