Well you would think that by watching television on any of the major networks. It seems like every show has at least one and usually multiple gay characters. In real life however it is a different story, out of the hundreds of people I know only 3 are homosexual, admittedly there are probably a few more that are in the closet or simply don't declare their sexuality to everyone.

My guess would be its less than 5%.

I would agree with that general statement. I have had a similarly hard time simply coming across actual people who were openly homosexual in my lifetime, this included attendance at certain places that would be fairly accepting of homosexuality as well. I would guess it was probably fewer than one percent of all people I have associated with or known.
