For the fourth year in a row, Louisiana State Rep. Joe Harrison's effort to push through an immigration law in the state has failed. Harrison, a Republican, took his proposal off the table on Wednesday after facing stiff opposition from law enforcement authorities, Catholic church officials and immigration advocates.....

....The bill would have required police to verify the citizenship of any arrested person before they are released. It would have required certain employers -- any state entity or the recipient of a grant totaling more than $50,000 -- to verify the citizenship status of their workforce. And it would have required colleges and social service providers to verify the citizenship of all applicants....

....At the request of the Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops, Harrison removed a provision to criminalize the transportation of undocumented immigrants, which might have affected charity work. But the conference still opposed the bill, saying the church prefers comprehensive federal reform over enforcement-only state policies.

Isn’t funny how citizens want immigration enforced, but the majority of law makers don’t? Funny how that works.

As a Catholic I am getting really sick of the Church pushing immigration, when their real reason is to try to fill their pews with Hispanics who are mostly Catholic.

The Church should stay out of the immigration issue.

Why does the Catholic Church support illegal activity and violation of sovereign borders?

Evidently, the CCBs in LA and elsewhere, believe that the only way for them to evangelize is through capturing enough illegal aliens in U.S. to add to their rolls - oh, and did I state that they get more of our tax $$$$ by doing this!!!!

As me if I want to continue to support illegal alien Catholics in U.S.?????

No only "NO" but "HELL NO!"

Tell the police to do their job, or do the unemployment line.

Tell the church to stay out of politics, or lose their state tax-exempt status.

Gary Bennett, the assistant director of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association, said it would be impossible for law enforcement officers to carry out the mandate under the bill.

Sorry sir but if Lousiana is any thing like Virginia the Sheriffs are the laziest most overrated "law enforcement" in the jurisdiction. They can sit in their new Dodge Chargers which we have paid for, and pull in the speeders, but when it comes to acting on illegals, burglaries, illegal gun trading, code enforcement, etc. they just refuse to do it. Not that the judicial community isn't also in on it.

It is blatant here, and there is wide citizen agreement. They do not want to do the real work. The simple fact is it is easier (and safer) to cite, extort, and rape, a legal registered taxpaying citizen, then stand up for them, and track down the real criminals. And the former is their priority.

It is called Leftism, the perversion of government, raping the citizen rather than working for them.

Since the Catholic church is choosing to involve themselves in all-things political which they are banned from doing vis-a-vis their tax-exempt status with the IRS tax code then perhaps the public tax-payers should demand that their exempt status be pulled and let them start paying Caesar what he is owed by the politically pandering church. They want it both ways. Enough already.
