I’m keeping my 1992 Honda Accord alive with minimal monetary means as I understand how to fix most of the normal breaks. It has 270,000 miles on it.

I have a ‘91 Miata with a similar amount of miles on it, and I have decided that I will only replace it when the chassis rusts in half. There’s something to be said for cheap, reliable, and fun to drive... without Big Brutha watching.

Did Honda ever get rid of the oil pump drive shims that wear down, allowing the oil pump drive gear to drop out of alignment with the camshhaft gear which drives the pump?

When that happens (because the oil pump gear is harder than the camshift worm), the camshaft gear (and the camshaft) is destroyed. Happened twice with my older Accord -- filling the engine with metal chips each time...

Keepin' the good ol'workhosres running in their face is the best protest(& it's not that hard, a little knowledge & elbow grease keeps going to at least 500,000).

Plus , as you get better at it you can customize your ride to your liking even better than the new crap that's really being spurted out souly to enhance some porkers bottom line.
