The growing signs that Sarah Palin may enter the race for president are igniting warnings that she takes inspiration from Esther. The signs that she might run include reports that she has purchased a house that could serve as a base for a national campaign, that she has given her approval to a film that depicts her years as governor of Alaska and that will debut at Iowa, and that she’s launching a “One Nation” bus tour. One of the warnings about her that crossed our screen was a blog post by Andrew Sullivan, who writes that Mrs. Palin “is running against the media; she is running as a victim; she is running for revenge.” He adds: “I, for one, feel nothing but a chill go up my spine.” And then: “Queen Esther is coming. Look busy.”
What’s with this hostility to Esther? She is, after all, one of the great heroes in the Jewish story. It was Esther who, at great risk to herself, exposed to King Ahasureus the plot of Haman to kill the Jews of Persia and thus saved her people. When Benyamin Korn first reported in the Sun that Mrs. Palin used the biblical Book of Esther as bedtime reading material for her eight-year-old daughter, it caused something of an internet sensation. Mrs. Palin, Mr. Korn reported, wants her daughter to emulate Esther, “who,” as Mr. Korn put it, “risked everything to save the Jewish people from Haman’s plan for genocide.” It’s lost on no one that once again the threat of genocide hangs over the Jewish people from Persia, whence Iran openly threatens to wipe Israel off the map. If Esther is a heroine who resonates for Mrs. Palin, what it shows is how deeply rooted is her understanding of our modern world.....

Dang it you beat me to it.
Will God turn His back on America in response to our lack of faith . . . will He send us a deliverer who can restore this country’s greatness . . . or will He give us a choice: Sarah or more Obama. My money is on the choice, and I pray daily that we will choose wisely.
Palin has no chance. Outside of FR, she is a joke, quit the governorship, and has too little experience. I like her and think there is a role for her, but she is not going to be president in 2012 or probably ever.
I like Pence. If he is interested, it will be interesting to see how he plays nationally without the name recognition.
DeMint would be ideal, but has no charisma. Unfortunatley, in a superficial world, that puts a nail in the coffin.
McDonnell ran a great campaign, but let’s see if he produces any results before annointing him. Virginia is in quite a mess and McDonnell still hasn’t talked about cutting spending.
I don’t know much about Thune other than that he is good looking and has good hair. Unfortunately, that is a qualifier.

The passage in Esther says: “And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
It is natural verse to cite when thinking of a woman assuming a role in the leadership of a nation.
It has nothing to do with Sarah wanting to go to war with Iran to save the Jews.
Esther is a prominent example in the bible of a woman leader. If Sarah becomes the first female US President, she would of course be compared to Esther and to Debra.

Post #18 sums it up well wolfman. Not that Palin is the second coming, but many of us Christians believe that we have a “calling” to do something, and that God has a plan for us if we chose to follow it. And I think the tendency to look back on history for examples is normal, and gives a person hope. Whether it be an Old Testament example or like I keep reminding myself - Reagan after Carter!
