After a long day of public appearances, President Obama and US First Lady Michelle were treated to a state banquet at Buckingham Palace, hosted by the Queen tonight. The star-studded banquet saw 171 guests arrive, including Tom Hanks, Kevin Spacey and Tim Burton, who dined on lamb, roast potatoes and vanilla Charlotte. Also at Her Majesty’s banquet in honour of the Obamas were David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Boris Johnson.

Cheers! The Queen toasts the Obama's visit before they sit down to a dinner of lamb, roast potatoes and vanilla Charlotte

As usual, Michelle was the center of attention.

Did the president fail to sip his champagne after toasting the queen? I don’t remember anyone commenting about it, so I thought I must have missed it.

You're exactly correct. I would also like to add that Queen Elizabeth II is not just Queen of the United Kingdom. She's the Queen (Head of State) for the 16 nations of the Commonwealth realm. These include: the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and 12 others. Obama is there in his capacity of Head of State of the United States of America. As such this state visit symbolizes the relationship between the USA and all Commonwealth realm nations.

Americans should be very proud to have such an elegant and classy couple in the White House and representing their country abroad. As a Canadian, I am definitely jealous. We haven’t had a Prime Minister with any class since Pierre Trudeau and, like Obama, he was reviled by a certain segment of the population. Mr. Obama is so intellectually superior to his critics that it’s almost embarrassing. These are the people who loved “Dubya” so what does that tell you?

She is dressed well. o’bama needs a new tailor. That jacket is too short. I can see wearing a flag pin on a business suit lapel, but it looks pandering on formal wear.

BBC video: Queen humilitates President Obama at Buckingham Palace by refusing toast

Thanks for that link.

Even for the Kenyan clown who is naught but a blunderer and a dunce, that was an astonishing pratfall. He sets new lows each and every day.

I think he is cracking. I think that perhaps there is some revelation that is percolating and has him in a tizzy.

Protocol escapes Obama. Even his signature, reveals an empty suit; save for the hot air of ego that fills his 'B' and 'O'. The 'H' is in there; albeit, discretely. His signature shows as well, a man who does not, cannot reveal himself. (For some this is a 'discretion'; for others, a protection.)

Believe that Obama's signature is the latter and is confirms his 'past' denied; and the dishonesty that unfolds from such deceit; and of course; beyond the hypocrisy of his message; the conflict of Obama's history of dates and documents that have his name assigned, might add to the 'slip' here.

Did wonder too, if the glaring error of 'wrong date' carried it's own message. It does 'cancel' the moment, the one, where Obama puts in writing, praise to England, and signs his name to it.

As to next faux pas reported; surely Obama was advised that the England's anthem would be played before 'anything' began at the table; including toast; but then, Obama has shown, time and time, again; jos arrogant indifference to protocol - including his determined 'bow' - which he mistakenly offered on behalf of every American citizen.

No question; Obama, 'on his own'; is his own worst 'instant messenger' and certainly, America's.

(And while I'm at it. . .if Michele had been wearing more suitable attire i.e. a 'suit' - and only, perhaps; even a hat - her skirt, dress. . .hair. . .would not have made her a 'victim' of the wind.) She is as slow or just as reluctant a 'learner' as is her husband. We know for certain, anyway; she is 'as determined'.

Is it normal and ‘history’ that a President enjoys a banquet while a massive section of their country is dealing with major natural disaster?

His “praise to England” is also a faux pas. He is visiting the United Kingdom, not just England.

The Queen is also not the “Queen of England” either. She is the Queen of the United Kingdom. There hasn’t been a “Queen of England” for 400 years.
