But parts of the country are getting worse.

Flint, Michigan -- the most violent city in America -- saw a 10% increase in violent crime over last year, with 2,208 violent crimes per 100,000 people. Rust Belt neighbor Detroit was only slightly safer

If you think Dallas is bad, you need to get out more. I routinely walk in downtown Dallas at night. Not something I’d do in downtown St. Louis.

Yes, the liberals have control, but we have guns, which always discourages the predator class.

I, too, lived in Memphis in its glory days. I remember the first time I ever visited Memphis (coming from steel mill dusted Birmingham, AL)I felt like I was in some other world. The place was so clean. The lights so bright. The neighborhoods so at peace. I loved it.

In national competition it [Memphis] has been acclaimed as the Cleanest City, the Safest City, and the Quietest City. — Forbes Travel Guide

I well remember when Memphis was among the finest cities in the nation. The traits of peacefulness and quiescent are, sadly, but memories in the Bluff City.

When I was a child, growing up in the 50s, my father
was a Main Street merchant.
Memphis was once rated as the cleanest city, and the quietest city in the USA.
It also had the top rated fire department in the country, and was home to the annual US firefighters convention.
When a city in the US wanted to order a new fire truck, all they had to write for specs was “like Memphis”.

The utilities, light/gas/water were all under one roof, and a model for the country.
I understand that the city has now been forced to sell each one to companies from outside the state.

As my brother says, It is all “Gone With the Wind”.

Lol, at the bottom of that article is a link that says Try one of these places instead... The 40 best cities on Earth, which lists Washington, DC 12th best. It's 15th on worst list. *Sigh*

I'll grant you that but isn't it a shame that our basis of comparison has to be "[insert city] has it worse?"

On those few occasions when I've been in downtown Dallas, I see menacing groups of thug-looking types with hats turned sideways, wearing baggy pants and listening to "music" at a loud volume. That's hardly comforting to someone of my age (on the threshold of 70). They look like they're up to no good.

It's the price we pay for decades after decade of liberalism's so-called "social justice."

One big component of the drop in crime has to be the demographic change. The bulge of the baby boom has worked it’s way now past the 50+ demographic. On average, Americans are older than they were in the last few decades. With relatively fewer people in the 15-35 demo, there is less violent crime.

Add to that some other facts: There’s more guns in good hands. Welfare reform in the 90’s. More states with 3-strikes laws... It makes sense.

I ran into the film crew for the Memphis Blues TV show filming in New Orleans.

They told me the show is filmed mostly in NOLA because it was way safer, cheaper , and much more fun.

Thanks to Katrina , we unloaded 325,000 plus worth of trouble and Dem votes elsewhere.

Another factor in these liberal bastions is the fact that liberals are soft on crime and criminals at the expense of the true victims of crime.

Liberals are also anti gun which are more frequently used for self defense and crime prevention.

Liberals are also noteworthy for legalization of drugs and other dangerous substances.

Liberals are also against the death penalty which in many ways creates deterrents to crime.

Liberal judges also give slap on the wrist sentences to career and hardcore criminals.

Lansing at 24? I’ve seen a LOT worse than Lansing, which is usually ranked middle of the pack. I understand Flint and Detroit, but Lansing’s not in that league. I’ve walked Lansing, alone, in the middle of the night without concern. In Flint or Detroit, I’d only do it with my gun.

Just look at this link to cover a 7 day period ... use it at any time or date. New Orleans crime rate is one of CNN’s 10 most dangerous in the WORLD: http://www.nola.com/crime

I am upset that AMW may be cancelled.

If so I hope they can find another network.

I was surprised to not see New Orleans in this group.

No mystery here. The criminal element fled New Orleans after Katrina and haven't as yet returned.
