60 Minutes ran a piece on Al Sharpton last night, apparently trying to help him rehabilitate his reputation since President Obama is making Sharpton a point person on immigration reform.
Heres a fascinating interview about Al Sharpton and the 60 Minutes interview from the very left Democracy Now
You can read the transcript here. What I want to highlight here is how CBS creates a dishonest narrative about Rev. Sharpton by omitting his recent history history that is well documented.
CBS does this with a very obvious form of misdirection, telling the views over and over again throughout the piece that Sharpton is a changed man who controversy is 15,20 or 30 years ago.
Heres how they start the segment.
Say "Al Sharpton" and most people probably think loud mouth activist and provocateur. That certainly was his image in the 1980s and 90s.
Well, the Reverend Al has gone through something of a metamorphosis: today hes down right tame. So much so, that he has made his way into the establishment.
Which may say something about the establishment but I digress.
Its been quite a trajectory: from street-protest agitator, to candidate for president in 2004, to now a trusted White House adviser who has become the presidents go-to black leader campaigning around the country for President Obama and his agenda.
Today, Sharpton looks and sounds like a totally different person.
But 20 years ago in New York, Sharpton, hot-headed in his jogging suits and larger than life in every way, was spreading hate and dividing the city. "No justice, no peace!" he shouted at one protest.

Two words - Tawana Brawley. Two more words - race baiter.
PUKE -
Who would watch 60 Minutes and who would listen to anything Al “The Racist & Bigot” Sharpton has to say?
“Say “Al Sharpton” and most people probably think loud mouth activist and provocateur”
I think “racist”.
CBS?? what is this?? When I was a Kid 40 years ago there was a tv station with those letters, are they still on the air?
Liar comes to mind also.
Turned off 60 Minutes in the middle of the Lance Armstrong hit piece.
Some things don’t change, huh? I see 60 Minutes is one of them — same old same old.
CBS... Dishonest... Redundant.
Radar went hot on this one.
During the entire interview I could not help thinking, Al the race pimp is using the very same tactic of Van Jones as exposed by Glenn Beck.
If you will remember Van Jones, in his own words, “I am willing to drop the radical pose for the radical end.”
The most Vile (certainly not Rev.) Al Sharpton is absolutely using this tactic to appear mainstream when he is just as vile a person as the NotRev. Wright.
Another perfect example of how much we will lose when Glenn Beck is off the air.
I would never have spotted this deception prior to watching Glenn exposing Van Jones. I would have simply wrote it off to Al getting older and more mellow.
One more item, long after the T Brawley lie, remember the race pimp extraordinaire attempting to destroy the lives of the Duke Lacrosse players?
Al Sharpton on Bogus Black Caucus Story: “I’ve Seen the Tape”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lNWY6zgxho
“Al Sharptontold Bill O’Reilly tonight that he’s seen the non-existent tape that purportedly shows Tea Party Protesters calling Black Caucus Members the n-word. Of course there is no tape. Sharpton is lying.”
The Main Stream Media has turned its back on the truth, and, therefore, on its reason for being.
Slowly but surely, it will be replaced by a “new” media, of the type that Andy Breitbart, and others, are championing. At least, as long as the First Amendment is still the law of the land, and as long as the internet remains free.
The gross irresponsibility of the present Main Stream Media assures that the “new media” will have to fight a war to do its job. Sooner or later, that war will turn bloody.
I watched for about 30 seconds and almost puked.

True.. Freedom costs blood.. always..
Sound bites will never buy freedom..
I was flipping channels and caught about a minute of this. It was a totally repulsive whitewash (no pun intended) of Al. The part I saw had him making excuses for the whole Brawley fraud.
