As a parent, Mr Lindh’s letter was heartbreaking to read. I had forgotten just how young (and obviously impressionable) his son was when he left to study Islamic culture and arabic language (in a pre- 9/11 world).
My son was also 18 when he left to join the US Army 2 yrs ago.
Young Mr. Lindh is now 30 and has served 10 years of his 20 year sentence. I will pray for him and his devastated family.
His family devastated itself long before JWL left to join the Taliban. Daddy left Mommy and little Johnny to move in with his boyfriend to play house. None of them have shown any remorse for what their actions have wrought. While you are praying for them, pray harder for the future of our nation which is being undermined at every turn by corrupt politicians and irresponsible parents.
Two comments.
A.) Cry me a river over Lindh and his whining pops.
B.) Islamic culture is an OXYMORON.
yes, the family needs your prayers. I mean, they allowed their underaged son to go to a wretched third world country to “learn” Arabic, without checking if he could learn it in a friendlier and cleaner place (e.g. Dubai, Stanford U, UCBerkeley)
but of course the editorial doesn’t mention that his son went off the deep end because daddy decided to divorce his wife and live with a male friend instead. Nah, just because he lied to a girl and married her girl to “cure” his impulses and then discard her and the kid when society told him it’s okay, doesn’t mean you did anything wrong that might have messed up your kid.
I’m not being sarcastic, because indeed the prayers are needed for some folks so they have insight on their own sins, so that they can repent.
