Joplin MO hit by strong destructive tornado

Hard to say...Bettes on TWC said they were chasing one, but it was difficult to see as it was wrapped in rain. They had warnings out, but there was just no time...Bettes was stunned when his crew came upon Joplin...had difficulty maintaining composure on air. Not sure if sirens were activated...

Prayers up for your family members and all affected by this dreadful tornado.

I’m a medical person but I’m all of 10 hours away. If I were closer I’d certainly go, still thinking about it but not sure I’d even get through from reading about the downed power lines and damage.

I guess prayer is the most powerful thing I can offer at this point.

My sister-in-law is just SE of there across the railroad tracks on Highland. My sister got through to her, and she's OK. That tornado was tracking SE, so I hope it missed your relatives. My SIL said there were three funnel clouds going through Joplin, and a lot of cell towers are down, so don't be nervous if you can't get through for a while.

Looters should be shot on sight. The Hubcap Store in Bridgeton, Mo, was heavily damaged during the Good Friday tornado, and as the owners were recovering what they could, looters were stealing wheels right in front of them.

They should have had good warning. The bad weather started three counties west (in Kansas), and they were very slow moving. The storm had produced at least two tornados when it was in Kansas.

Rescuers pulling bodies out of rubble on one side of the city, meanwhile animals steal goods out of rubble on the other side of the city.

Authorities need to declare publicly that looters will be prosecuted with deadly force.

Spotter saw a large tornado just north of Siloam Springs, AR, heading toward Gentry, AR.

It passed about 1 mile north of me in Siloam Springs.

the walmart destroyed is abour 2-3 miles east of the hospital

the area hit is an older section of the city with small city blocks packed with smaller older homes
