Zogby New Poll Stunner: Christie, Cain Lead GOP Pack
News Max ^ | 05/20/2011 | David A. Patten & Ashley Martella

A new IBOPE Zogby poll shows Atlanta businessman Herman Cain vaulting into the No. 1 front-runner position among active candidates as the choice to win the GOP presidential nomination in 2012.

Cain, a longtime Pillsbury executive who later became chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, was the preferred choice of 14 percent of the likely Republican primary voters polled.

His showing placed second only to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who got 17 percent. Christie, however, has insisted repeatedly that he will not be running for president in 2012. Ron Paul placed third with 10 percent, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who had 9 percent.

Pollster John Zogby told Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview that the sudden rise of Cain shows the degree of restlessness among GOP faithful, given their current options.

“He’s not well known. He’s very plain speaking,” Zogby said. “But when someone enters the forum, as he did during that debate, and rises to the top, it’s kind of like Donald Trump, it’s kind of like Chris Christie: “We don’t like the field, this is a guy that we can believe in.’”

Cain was considered the winner of the recent Fox News debate held in South Carolina. His memorable applause line came when a panelist pointed out that he lacked experience holding public office. Cain pointed out that almost everyone elected to national office in Washington, D.C., had prior public service experience.

If it's important to liberals to advance minority political power and numbers, then wouldn't nominating a black republican to run against Obama be a wonderful thing? Talk about your win-win opportunities!

I'm looking for a gender transitioned, one legged, fat black person with dyslexia, an overbite, and a GED, for the next election. That way I'll be called a homophobic, inconsiderate, body typing, superficial, intellectual racist snob, and as such be the complete package.

If Cain becomes a threat they will do even worse. He is Black.

Oh, there'll be the typical "Uncle Tom" comments and such; especially from the Jacksons, Sharptons and NAACP types. But with our current president that won't get much traction beyond the Black voters. He'll be better off than Palin would be.

It’s not like he hides that he held a position on the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, and that he was subsequently elected their chairman, anyone that reads his bio can learn it and the Paulist have been screaming about it to any and all that would listen, but it’s not what so many make it out to be.

The Federal Reserve Banks do not set monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Banks do provide financial services to depository institutions including banks, credit unions, and savings and loans, much like those that banks provide for their customers. These services include collecting checks, electronically transferring funds, and distributing and receiving cash and coin.

FYI, “Rassy” polling method: (hasn’t changed in years, still does not acknowledge Internet Social Networking, cell phones, iphones, etc,,)

[Data for Rasmussen Reports survey research is collected using an automated polling methodology. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.

Generally speaking, the automated survey process is identical to that of traditional, operator-assisted research firms such as Gallup, Harris, and Roper. However, automated polling systems use a single, digitally-recorded, voice to conduct the interview while traditional firms rely on phone banks, boiler rooms, and operator-assisted technology.

For tracking surveys such as the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll or the Rasmussen Consumer Index, the automated technology insures that every respondent hears exactly the same question, from the exact same voice, asked with the exact same inflection every single time.

All Rasmussen Reports’ survey questions are digitally recorded and fed to a calling program that determines question order, branching options, and other factors. Calls are placed to randomly-selected phone numbers through a process that insures appropriate geographic representation. Typically, calls are placed from 5 pm to 9 pm local time during the week. Saturday calls are made from 11 am to 6 pm local time and Sunday calls from 1 pm to 9 pm local time.

To reach those who have abandoned traditional landline telephones, Rasmussen Reports uses an online survey tool to interview randomly selected participants from a demographically diverse panel.

After the surveys are completed, the raw data is processed through a weighting program to insure that the sample reflects the overall population in terms of age, race, gender, political party, and other factors. The processing step is required because different segments of the population answer the phone in different ways. For example, women answer the phone more than men, older people are home more and answer more than younger people, and rural residents typically answer the phone more frequently than urban residents.

For surveys of all adults, the population targets are determined by census bureau data.

For political surveys, census bureau data provides a starting point and a series of screening questions are used to determine likely voters. The questions involve voting history, interest in the current campaign, and likely voting intentions.

Rasmussen Reports determines its partisan weighting targets through a dynamic weighting system that takes into account the state’s voting history, national trends, and recent polling in a particular state or geographic area.]

The left would say we’re just nominating a black guy to go up against a black guy, proving FOR SURE that we’re absolutely racist.

Except that his literacy, ability to speak to issues without the need of a teleprompter, and the lack of hubris that Obama displays will put the lie to that rather quickly.

Say NO to Chris Christie! He may be good for NJ, but he is an anti-gun, middle of the road social conservative! NO MORE RINOS!

It’s up to you whether it is “evil” or not...I didn’t use that word, but there certainly is a concerted effort by the “journolistas” to destroy Palin’s chances of becoming President.

All political candidates should be required to serve under the Federal Reserve for a while, to learn something about how to manage the treasury!

Cain is vastly qualified to be President for this reason alone. He held an accomplished Executive position in this area to boot.

I agree. I love Palin but I want to make sure our nominee can beat Obama. That is all that matters. Of course, it better be a true conservative or a lot of us won’t vote.
