A Tucson, Ariz., SWAT team defends shooting an Iraq War veteran 60 times during a drug raid, although it declines to say whether it found any drugs in the house and has had to retract its claim that the veteran shot first.
And the Pima County sheriff scolded the media for "questioning the legality" of the shooting.
Jose Guerena, 26, died the morning of May 5. He was asleep in his Tucson home after working a night shift at the Asarco copper mine when his wife, Vanessa, saw the armed SWAT team outside her youngest son's bedroom window.
"She saw a man pointing at her with a gun," said Reyna Ortiz, 29, a relative who is caring for Vanessa and her children. Ortiz said Vanessa Guerena yelled, "Don't shoot! I have a baby!"
Vanessa Guerena thought the gunman might be part of a home invasion -- especially because two members of her sister-in-law's family, Cynthia and Manny Orozco, were killed last year in their Tucson home, her lawyer, Chris Scileppi, said. She shouted for her husband in the next room, and he woke up and told his wife to hide in the closet with the child, Joel, 4.

If the guy had been dirty, which he wasn't, they would not have been any sealed records, lawyer for the SWAT team and the story would still be blaring from every media outlet how the brave heroes killed the evil and dangerous drug dealer.
It was a murder pure and simple.
What will it take for 10 speakers? Or 100 speakers? Why can we, as a nation, mobilize thousands of voices for any rinky-dink cause but when it comes to criminal actions by the government, we seem to go silent? BTW: Who, by name, are the SWAT team members? Who, by name, was the judge that approved the search warrant (if one was approved). Maybe this bunch have made “mistakes” before...
That poster knows something of which he speaks, sounds to me. This whole deal is disconcerting.
Something is very rotten in this county!
Be nice if Geraldo Rivera from FoxNews would start investigating this case? He seems to have no fear stepping on toes.
So where do we start? The bonding idea is a very good one - but will be resisted violently by the powers that be. If there is any actionable idea brought up on this forum, this is it. I will put my money where my mouth is and put $10,000 toward a PAC or other organization to start this effort in a state that this can be achieved. No kidding. No Internet blather. Real action.
Citizens of INDIANA pay close attention to this.
Get used to it, America, coming soon to a town near you as well. Welcome to the new Bolshevism.
Yeah, the government is so concerned with our safety, they ban happy meals, force 7 year olds into car seats, ban toy guns, outlaws everything deemed unsafe, yet they storms neighborhoods with dozens of paramilitary civilian police troops, shooting dozens of rounds at one person who is inside his own home, and was not suspected of a violent crime.
The fish rots from the head.
How dare you question your betters? We ARE the law! Of course anyone we shoot is shot legally!
More like five of them emptied their mags into him. When will we have high capacity mag control for the police? "High capacity" mags are only for killing people, you know!
And the police do it so well.
Nope, it’s inexcusable and I’ll bet they found nothing at Guerena’s house or any of the others they claim they raided at the same time. They can’t even get their story straight about whether they were investigating a ring of drug dealers or a gang of home invaders.
No. That would imply that they had some semblance of training and fire control when in fact only 5 jack-booted thugs 14.2 tapped him.
A statement like that from a LEO in charge should be immediate cause for an investigation of its own. But this "above the law" attitude is being fed with steroids thanks to the lying jug-eared narcissist in the WH and all of his extra-legal antics.
It was 71 fired in 7 seconds. Basically the 5 cops just emptied their magazines.
Please tell me that this was sarcasm. Jerry Rivers is the biggest apologist for liberals on FOX... with the possible exception of Shep.
Just yesterday on Brian Kilmeade's radio program, Jerry said "As a Jew, and as a Zionist, I agree with President Obama's position that Israel should return to the pre 1967 borders." He went on to say that Israel should give in to all of the concessions asked of them so that they can say "We have done all that we could to secure peace".
The only "toes" he doesn't mind stepping on are the toes of sane people. He is a jerk, a fraud, and a phoney
Very good comment Don Corleone, very good indeed. You Hoosiers do need to pay close attention.
The SWAT guys are not stupid. They know the drug gangs would shoot back. More to the point, they would be up, awake, and alert at 4am because that's when they do a lot of their business. Even more to the point, if the SWAT people seriously disrupt their business, the drug gangs would make a serious effort to take the war home to the SWAT guys, as they do in Mexico, and the SWAT guys have no interest in starting to play that game.
Every little town has no need for SWAT. Let SWAT be a State Police function, where the local cops have to call the State and justify why they need a SWAT raid.
'Nuff said.
