And then there is Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, or as I like to call him, DewCrist.
Much like the former Governor of Florida turned ambulance chaser, DewCrists conduct as lieutenant governor has been consistent: whatever advances his political aspirations at that moment, hes for. Obviously, it worked well for him during his first two terms. But in the first few months of his third term the one in which his path toward higher office has finally cleared his continuing to play both sides of the fence is costing Texas conservatives a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make historic policy gains.
He has approached the budget as a math problem rather than an opportunity to downsize government. As president of the Texas Senate, he allowed the finance committee to adopt a draft budget $12 billion larger than the one approved by the House and endorsed by the states leading conservative organizations.
Rather than using his leverage with senators to persuade them to reinvent and downsize government within existing revenues, he assigned a moderate Republican senator to come up with accounting gimmicks and non-tax revenues to pay for $4 billion of higher spending, and then gave mixed signals as to whether hed support their use of $3 billion more from the states rainy day fund.
But his latest antics on higher education may be his most egregious knifing of conservatives yet.

This is TEXAS, for crying out loud. NO RINO’S REQUIRED!!!!
The Speaker of the Texas House is no better, he is more D than R.
Entrenched Statists are hard to get rid of.
No kidding, here we go again with the RiNO's, only this time it's Lt. Gov. Dewhurst, the most powerful constitutional officer in the State of Texas.
Here-we-go-again ping.
Elections have consequences.
Really?
Pfffffftt
Does this Eric guy know what he’s talking about? I don’t think so.
Thanks for the ping, lentus. I really didn’t know very much about him.
I don’t know anything about him. I was speaking more about the majorities we have in both houses. Just seems like we should be getting more conservative issues past.
Maybe I’m just impatient. But at least it’s raining here tonight!!!
And Erickson wasn’t able to get him out either.
Our problem is the lack of knowledge of Republican primary voters in all states.
Well when you consider that most Rino’s think they did a good job this session, they actually did pretty good for themselves...A feckless leadersip in the party is equally credited for the feckless nature of NOT getting some good policy changes made...
The direction Texas is going is not good...
If they thought the battle to get the budget balanced and passed was hard this time...Wait till 2013...When revenues are not even this good...
The question you have to ask yourself is this...
“What are the two largest (main) sources of revenue for the state of Texas???
I’ll give you one of them...Its the state sales tax...The other is what Obama is destroying in our state...And other states as well...
Dewhurst is a self-described Bush Republican. Nuff said.
