Tea Party congressman underwhelmed by current Republican presidential field By Michael O'Brien - 05/20/11 02:45 PM ET

The current crop of Republican presidential candidates is "lukewarm" and unexciting, said Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), a Tea Party darling.

West, a freshman Republican lawmaker from Florida, badmouthed the 2012 field of GOP hopefuls while noting that he himself would not be seeking the presidency.

"I've got to tell you that no one is really exciting anyone out there right now," West told the conservative website Newsmax in an interview posted late Thursday. "I think by September, October, maybe we'll see a front-runner. But right now, you know, kind of lukewarm."

West said he "couldn't say right now" if he had any favorites, and that his only focus was on seeking reelection to his House seat next fall.

West's words might sound disappointing to someone like former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), a potential presidential candidate who helped propel West to his congressional nomination with a key endorsement just before the primary.

The political action committees of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) and former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) each eventually endorsed and donated to West, too, but not until later in the process, and much closer to Election Day.

West appeared at an event in Florida earlier this year with Donald Trump, who withdrew from seeking the GOP nomination last week. West credited Trump with setting a faster pace for the other Republican candidates.

"I think that he tried to get people to come out of their comfort zones, but you still have a pretty 'blah' atmosphere out there," West said.

I am telling you as plainly as I can that Palin cannot win. And all the hopin wish and dreaming will not change the fact that she is unelectable. I will go so far as to say that she is the only Republican candidate that cannot beat Obama.

right now I am a Bachman supporter. If you want to make this personal, be my guest. Beating up on me does not change the fact that Palin is unelectable.

From Romney fan to using Bachmann as a beard while you attack the only conservative that can stop Romney in 2012.

I think I see your pro abortion mentality at play.

We know that you don’t take our conservative concerns seriously.

I notice you don’t deny being pro abortion, nor being a past Romney fan.

Someone with those political leanings trolling against the woman that is neck and neck with Romney for the GOP Primary is self explanatory.

You’re my dear friend, but I think you’re wrong. Sarah Palin is the only possible candidate who can raise the near $1 Billion to match the Marxist, and if you think she’s damaged, then you’ve bought into the lamestream’s image of her.

Every conservative will be shredded, bar none. At least Sarah Palin, like Donald Trump, takes it to Obama. The others are too busy going-along-to-get-along.

Well, we shall see. She is not as popular as she used to be. And that Bristol is not going to help her with this reality show crap. Personally, I don’t think she is going to run.
With Bachman set to announce, it makes no sense. I don’t think Bachman would enter if Palin was throwing in.

Not underwhelmed so much as disgusted.

Congressman West is pro-life, with the exception of rape, incest, and endangerment of the mother. in those cases, he believes it’s up to the mother, not the government.

i got this straight from his office.

sounds like a rational stance on the issue. it’s not pro-abortion and it leaves the choice with the mother.

but hey, thanks for trying to sling mud instead of discussing the issue i brought up.

that being CHARACTER

I don’t think that you understand all of what being pro-life includes.

So he’s pro-life, except when he’s pro-death. Hmm.

1.2m US abortions per year.
~ 38,000 in the rape, incest category.

i’m pretty sure there is a big difference between pro-choice and pro-life with an exception.

a much bigger difference then pro-life with exception and pro-life without

if you want to get sticky about it...

absolute pro-life would also mean no conception of any kind.

any kind.

i’m guessing you’re that kinda nutty

I’m sorry, but being pro-life is not what you are portraying here.

then when is it ok to stop life?

using a condom would be stopping life just as much as an abortion, to be technical.

you’ve taken an action to stop the birth of a child.

the only true conception would be abstinence until the potential outcome is accepted.
