A new report says American troops in Afghanistan are suffering with the highest rates of mental health problems since 2005 and that morale has plummeted.

The report, released Thursday, furnished the first detailed glimpse of the psychological cost of a campaign commanders and officials say has reversed the momentum of the insurgency. Among other things, it says the dramatic increase in fighting there is one of the key factors affecting the mental health of the uniformed forces. For instance, some 70 to 80 percent of troops surveyed for the report said they had seen a buddy killed or wounded.

The stress and anxiety comes not from fighting the enemy, but in the stupid ROEs and constant threats of criminal prosecution by our exalted leaders if something ever goes wrong while deployed or on a mission.

To paraphrase Kerry, “Who wants to be the last man to die for a mistake?” Obama is committed to bugging out. In July, we start to draw down our troop strength and that may be accelerated prior to the 2012 elections. If you were putting your ass on the line every day in Afghanistan, what is the reward for the risk?

Probably because no one can figure out why they are there.

Our troops want to come home. 10 years is enough to be living in that desert slums. They know that the Afghan’s aren’t going to change to our way of thinking. Think about it, our troops have to even teach them how to read before they can be trained. I’m not agreeing with Obama here, but bring our troops home. All of them and leave the desert people to fend for themselves.

We’ve been in Afghanistan for almost ten years. Is the threat of muslim terrorism any less than it was a decade ago?

Our guys are still being killed there. There are no V-A or V-I day parades in the near future. Unless we fight the war to annihilate the enemy, which we won’t, there is no winning it and nothing changes.

It’s a set up to use as an excuse to pull the troops out. It’s what OSTUPID has been angling for all along. Expect to see more stories like this to turn public opinion.

Agree, articles like this probably indicate the start of a “boom” supportive of “The Divine One’s” pulling out of the troops.

That is because our mission there isn't to kill the perps of 911 anymore. It's to build a democratic country with people who can't read and worship a pedophile.

I am so sick of Nation Building!!!

Speaking of stupid ROEs its the same way in Iraq under both Jug Ears and his predecessor what-his-name. My sons last deployment there convinced him he was an acceptable casualty. It was completely up the Iraqi army/police/etc to fight. All his unit did was break contact and run for the FOB. Once there they usually had to endure a mortar attack while the Iraqi authorities dithered. If you returned fire there was hell to pay in the form of a verbal beat down, reams of paperwork to acct for every round and punitive punishment details. His first deployment was all about fighting. Now he’s telling me some of his buddies who deployed to Afgan have been killed.

The stated rationale for staying in Afghanistan is that if it falls, Pakistan will fall and the Taliban will take possession of the nuclear arsenal. From what I can read the U.S. is sending slightly more aid to Pakistan than it is to Israel. It might make more sense for NATO to pull inside the Indian border with Pakistan and monitor Pakistan's nukes from there.
