NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) She made history by becoming the first woman to anchor the evening news solo, and tonight Katie Couric will sit in the anchors chair for the last time.
As part of her departure tonight, Couric will interview Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and will file her final Notebook feature for CBSNews.com.
Tonights broadcast will air at 6:30 p.m. and will also feature a retrospective of her time in the anchor chair.
Couric began her tenure with Evening News on Sept. 5, 2006 following in the footsteps of broadcast news legends Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather.
Couric got off to a great start. Her first Evening News broadcast generated more than 13 million viewers the highest ratings for the show since 1998. It was also the first evening newscast to be broadcast simultaneously online and on the radio.
In 2008, Couric won the Edward R. Murrow award for best newscast. However, the initial ratings success wouldnt last and Evening News consistently found itself in third place. Some wondered if Couric could hold her own against her male counterparts.

Maybe she’ll flash us!
To what depths has our culture sunk when events concerning a news reader becomes the news?
Who is she?
Nightmare, you want a nightmare?
If Edward R. Murrow is receiving this information in the afterlife, his corpse is spinning like a lathe.
I wouldve thought that shed go work for Chavez or maybe Radio Habana to stay true to her political views.
never saw her once. Just not into TV & surely not network news. had DishTV for a year & half for my mom & she watched tons of network things, little of the goodies we were paying for. I on occasion would watch the cable networks for special things & sports but had to give up the Dish recently due to cost/income balance.
I wish her well. I am guessing she did what she was taught & followed her soul which was no doubt very liberal
“I know it was you, Fredo...you broke my heart.”
Never saw one of her broadcasts. Won’t be starting tonight either. Doesn’t really matter they replace her with. They’re all lefties and I won’t be watching them either.
