Schumer Loves Gingrich
Wall Street Journal ^ | 05/19/11

Posted on 05/19/2011 9:04:55 AM PDT by MissesBush

GOP Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich responded to our Tuesday editorial headline—"Gingrich to House GOP: Drop Dead"—by calling it "just plain baloney" on Bill Bennett's radio show the same day. But look who's already using the former House Speaker's words to trash House Republicans.

None other than Chuck Schumer, the chief Democratic proponent of using Medicare as a political club. The New York Senator told reporters on a conference call Wednesday that "Newt and I are considered political opposites, but I couldn't agree more with what he said Sunday about the plan to end Medicare."

Mr. Gingrich "acknowledged that this is right-wing social engineering," Mr. Schumer said, according to media accounts of the call. "Gingrich was saying what everyone knows to be true. The plan is extreme." That sure sounds like a Democrat using Newt's words to tell Republicans to drop dead politically.

Mr. Schumer went on to signal that Mr. Gingrich is likely to become a star in every Democrat's political attack ads from here to November 2012. "I feel for Speaker Gingrich," the Democrat said. "He's entered the race only to find out that the Republican Party has been pushed considerably further to the right than the party he led in the 1990s."

This strategy is likely to show up first in the special election next Tuesday to fill a vacant House seat in update New York. If Republicans lose that House seat, Mr. Gingrich's remarks will be a large part of the reason.

The Georgia Republican has been making the conservative talk show and cable TV rounds trying to defend, backtrack from, or apologize for his attack on the GOP. But what he really ought to do is take his Presidential campaign money and donate it to the House GOP Congressional campaign committee to cut ads to defend...

Is anyone still supporting this jerk? He may have cost us House seats and control of the Senate in 2012 with his inexplicable attack on Paul Ryan. We were facing on onslaught from the Dems as it was, but now the GOP is going to have to spend millions now to defend against Gingrich. What is wrong with this guy?? Was he dropped on his head as an adult? Eat too many paint chips as a child? The only thing I can figure is that because Gingrich was painted as an extremist by the Liarcrats in the 90s, he figured he can make himself look moderate by attacking Paul Ryan. That makes Gingrich a creep. I really hope no one is supporting this guy in the primary and that he'll drop out in the next few weeks. What a complete fool.

You know, that headline conjures up a mental image I really didn't need on my lunch hour.

Democrats are COMMUNISTS and Repubs are SOCIALISTS, try them all for TREASON

You can add to that Ginrich is an idiot, he’s not even smart enough to be a RINO.

Someone needs to provide Gingrich a private room with a loaded “Lugar”.

Newt's Sunday morning tv adventure into liberalville was another idiotic performance by an undisciplined political has-been. But it did accomplished two things.

One, gave the MSM more potent ammunition to use against Paul Ryan and the GOP House. And two, it showed the fallacy of a Gingrich run for potus.

Get lost, Newt!

I hope Tiffany sues Newt for their $500k and Newt goes bankrupt.

I wonder if Newt’s presidential run had anything to do with this enormous bill? I know there are lots of funny games played with campaign contributions.

Gingrich ought to run in the primary—the Democratic primary against Obama. Seems he would feel more comfortable with that crowd these days. His morals fit in better with them too.

For some Republicans, Conservatism is a political strategy!

Not a set of core principles.

Leftist scum like Chuckie will ALWAYS make nice with RINO’s who attack members of the Republican party base. Why do you think sell-outs like Juan McCain and Lindsey Grahamnesty betray conservatives with such regularity?? It’s to gain the favor of the NY Times, Washington Post and the rest of the national, Democrat press corps.

"Newt and I are considered political opposites, but I couldn't agree more with what he said Sunday about the plan to end Medicare."

And that, Newt, is why your comments of the last week or so have become your 'jump the shark' moment.

And I am one who actually looked forward to campaign debates that featured Newt's knowledge, general lucidity, and ability to argue. But now, to quote the great philosopher, Don Meredith, "Turn out the lights, the party's over."

Newtie confirms my axiom....."what emanates from a poltician's mouth means nothing if it's not grounded in ones character first". Most politicians are liars or cowards. When honesty happens to intersect with courage and conservative principles, a rarity, support them with unapologetic gusto.

"Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees all others." Winston Churchill

Rush said Newt is looking for a niche.

The only niche Newt wants is hearing the importance of his own voice. He wants the Left to see him as an intellectual.

We on the Right know Newt is smart ( well, we used to think so ) , but being an intellectual is no big deal with us. We want competence and moral leadership. Newt just needs to be liked and respected. Never ever vote for someone who wants to be liked.

Newt has also called for a return to voter literacy testing. Am surprised I haven’t heard more racist calls on that one. Truth is, it isn’t a bad idea for all races considering the stooooopidity we are all drowning in.

If Gingrich hasn't already committed hara-kiri with his statements Sunday, this is the kiss of death to his campaign.

“Schumer Loves Gingrich” maybe but he won’t ever be able to vote for the Newt-ist.

Rush said Newt is looking for a niche.

Either Newt really thinks way too highly of himself, or he's got a book deal ready to go and is just using the political process to build interest.
