The so called “Clinton Surplus” came from Newt, Armey, and
Gramm
Newt WAS welfare reform, Bubba vetoed it three times, and was forced to sign it, between Newt and Gramm they would have gotten another veto overridden.
So, even though Newt seems to be putting his foot in his mouth lately, political newbie junkies need to study a little history.
The problem is, while Newt was a firebrand; he was also a media/publicity hound, and doesn’t seem to have lost that desire, although he’s lost a lot of his conservative fire.
It sounds like Newt has fallen victim to the Beltway Disease, that turns erstwhile conservatives into mushy moderates.
